GHD's Western Canada Region is looking for a Senior Civil/Construction/Environmental Engineer to join our North American Waste Management team. This role is well-suited to a senior technical professional who brings strong waste management experience, sound engineering judgment, and an interest in helping grow our Western Canada practice.

This is an opportunity to take on a visible technical and leadership role within an established waste management team that supports municipal, private sector, and First Nation clients across North America. The successful candidate will help deliver practical, technically sound solutions for landfill, organics, transfer station, landfill gas, and broader waste management projects.

The role may be based out of our Calgary, Edmonton, or Vancouver office. Other Canadian offices will be considered.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
  • Technical leadership and design oversight: Lead and provide senior technical review for waste management projects, including landfill design, landfill gas systems, transfer stations, organics facilities, permitting, operations support, construction management, and inspection.
  • Project delivery and governance: Support Project Managers and project teams in the delivery of complex waste management projects, with a focus on quality, technical risk management, QA/QC, schedule, budget, and client outcomes.
  • Client relationships and business development: Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal, private sector, and First Nation clients, and support the development of new opportunities across Western Canada.
  • Proposal and technical strategy: Lead or support the development of technical approaches for proposals, including scope development, methodology, fee assumptions, and practical delivery strategies.
  • Waste management consulting: Provide senior consulting support in areas such as landfill design and operations, landfill gas management, compost and organics facilities, transfer stations, waste reduction programs, regulatory compliance, storage, transport, and disposal.
  • Feasibility studies and options analysis: Complete feasibility assessments, technical evaluations, and cost-benefit analyses to help clients make informed decisions about waste infrastructure, operational improvements, and technology options.
  • Mentorship and team development: Provide technical mentorship to junior and intermediate staff, support peer reviews, and contribute to the growth of the Western Canada and North American Waste Management teams.
  • Collaboration with technical disciplines: Work collaboratively with GHD's Engineering Design Organization and other technical disciplines to develop complete, integrated solutions for clients, contractors, suppliers, and project partners.
  • Health, safety, and environment: Promote GHD's HSE culture by supporting safe project delivery, monitoring performance, and taking action to address risks, non-compliance, or opportunities for improvement.

What you'll bring to the team:
  • P.Eng. designation in Alberta or British Columbia, or eligibility to obtain registration in the province associated with your home office.
  • 15+ years of civil/construction or environmental engineering experience, with strong preference for waste management experience.
  • Strong technical experience in the design, construction, or operation of waste management facilities, including landfills, landfill gas systems, transfer stations, and organics facilities.
  • Experience providing senior technical review, project governance, and QA/QC for engineering deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and support business development.
  • Experience mentoring junior and intermediate technical staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D is considered an asset.
  • Valid Alberta or British Columbia driver's license with a driving record in good standing.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for project work, client meetings, and field oversight.
