SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Category Specialist - Steel that will provide development, implementing, and managing sourcing strategies for specified categories or group of categories. This role will focus on optimizing costs, quality, and delivery while improving Supply Chain efficiencies and maintaining supplier relationships.

Hiring Locations: Hybrid inMinneapolis,MN (PREFERRED). Open to other locations such as Phoenix, AZ, Denver, CO, Chicago, IL, Milwaukee, WI, Nashville, TN, Seattle, WA, or Portland, OR.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Estimating and Procurement
    • Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for estimate preparation
    • Solicit quotes from manufacturers and trade partners
    • Understand project specifications and qualify manufacturer quotes
    • Create Proposals
    • Assist Design Phase with material selections based on client needs
  • Project Coordination
    • Create and Maintain procurement log
    • Manage Submittals and Shop Drawing process
    • Coordinate with project teams and other trades
  • Assist in implementation of Category Strategy for Assigned Categories
    • Identify and engage with internal stakeholders across engineering and operations to capture category requirements
    • Assess potential opportunities for categories including spend segmentation, category maturity, cost drivers, and supply market analysis
    • Support Annual Category Reviews including updated projects, metrics, strategy, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Support Relationships with Key Suppliers
    • Maintain relationship with suppliers at the appropriate level
    • Monitor supplier's quality and delivery performance
  • Assist with the Financial Success of Category
    • Assist with monthly and annual category financial reviews with project information, metrics, forecast and strategy, if applicable
  • Support Material Cost Reductions for Assigned Categories
    • Assist in supplier contract negotiations
    • Closely monitor market drivers affecting the category including raw material pricing and availability, supplier capacity, industry disruptions and new products.
    • Aid in forecasting, reporting, mitigating, and recovery of commodity inflation
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance
  • Conduct category analysis and support assistant category mangers and category managers
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or related discipline, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and/or materials, purchasing processes and procedures
  • Foundational business acumen, with familiarity with strategic thinking and negotiations
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Time management and decision-making skills
  • Ability to collaborate and influence without authority
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Current driver's license

The base pay range for this role is $84,500 - $126,800. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
