Full Job Description
Job Summary:
The Sr. Buyer is a senior-level position responsible for leading complex procurement projects and initiatives. This role involves conducting advanced sourcing and purchasing activities, performing in-depth cost analysis, and developing strategies to improve procurement efficiency and effectiveness. The Sr. Buyer works closely with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve procurement issues, implement cost-saving measures, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, this role involves mentoring and training junior buyers and providing technical expertise to support continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities:
  • Purchases machine services, motors, castings, forgings, fabrications/machine parts and electrical components.
  • Prepares purchase orders and monitors inventory requirements.
  • Assists with selection of qualified vendors and monitors their performance for quality, delivery and cost.
  • Develops and cultivates good business relations with current and potential suppliers, negotiating price, terms and conditions of purchase and delivery
  • Utilizes total cost analysis to evaluate supply chain options.
  • Works closely with the Production Scheduler to enable accurate forecasting and delivery schedules.
  • Collaborates with all departments to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for services and urgent drop shipments, obtain freight tracking numbers and communicate to operations status of delivery
  • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities


Sourcing and Procurement:
• Identify and source potential suppliers
• Review and analyze supplier proposals
• Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers
• Maintain and update supplier database

Negotiate and Manage Contracts:
• Review and negotiate contracts for goods and services
• Ensure contracts comply with company policies and legal requirements
• Monitor contract performance and make necessary adjustments
• Evaluate and resolve contract disputes

Strategic Planning and Analysis:
• Analyze market trends and identify potential opportunities for cost savings
• Develop and implement procurement strategies
• Monitor and report on key performance indicators
• Conduct market research and benchmarking

Supplier Relationship Management:
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers
• Monitor and evaluate supplier performance
• Resolve any issues or conflicts with suppliers
• Identify and develop new supplier partnerships

Cost Management:
• Monitor and control costs related to procurement
• Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives
• Conduct cost analysis and identify areas for improvement
• Ensure compliance with budgetary constraints

Compliance and Risk Management:
• Ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations
• Identify and assess potential risks in the supply chain
• Develop and implement risk management strategies
• Monitor and report on compliance and risk management measures.

Qualifications:
• A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field with at least 5 years experience or equivalent work experience that provides exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
• In-depth understanding of inventory management principles and practices.
• Experience with developing and implementing inventory management policies and procedures.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

The estimated salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range. At Xylem we offer a competitive compensation package with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision plans, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.
