Job Description

The Senior Buyer is responsible for the selection and purchase of women's and men's ready-to-wear, shoes, accessories, swimwear, sunglasses, spa merchandise, children, beauty, entertainment and branded apparel for resale within the Wynn, Encore, and Encore Boston Harbor retail shops. Buying decisions are made with consideration for sales trends, supply chain conditions, and customer needs, and are governed by the current open-to-buy as outlined in the annual department plans. The role carries direct accountability for gross margin performance, inventory turn, and the development of the buying team.

Job Responsibilities
  • Selects merchandise for orders, places orders, and remains involved in inventory distribution. Reviews the success of previous orders to determine the extent to which inventory should be replenished.
  • Manages open-to-buy and is accountable for gross margin performance and inventory turn.
  • Partners with upper management to ensure merchandise meets customer requests and expectations. Follows competitor promotions, trends, and social media to ensure the assortment remains competitive within the market.
  • Researches new trends and advances in product lines to make appropriate buying decisions in conjunction with the planning team. Works closely with the Planner to build auto-replenishment programs, store assortment models, and open-to-buy by vendor on a seasonal basis.
  • Negotiates up-front discounts and shipping discounts with vendors.
  • Reviews store performance by vendor on a regular basis and manages inventory levels accordingly. Works with vendors to schedule in-store product knowledge trainings and sales contests.
  • Partners with store management on merchandising standards for new products, continually evaluates product performance, and schedules product shifts accordingly. Works with store management and associates to provide product information and key selling points.
  • Attends seasonal markets pertaining to each category, including international travel.
  • Develops, monitors, and achieves all short- and long-term financial goals and objectives, including sales, gross margin, inventory turn, and bottom-line profitability.
  • Communicates standards, operational functions, and performance expectations to all staff and team members, and holds them accountable. Directly responsible for the supervision and development of the Associate Buyer, Assistant Buyer, and Purchase Order Clerks.
  • Consistently places the interests of the company first and works to exceed every goal set for the position.


Qualifications
  • Four to five years of experience in retail buying or a buying-related area.
  • Bachelor's degree in the area of specialty.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the retail environment, including purchase order inputting and vendor follow-up, open-to-buy planning, product information for sales associate training, and monitoring of auto-replenishment stock.
  • Ability to work well under general supervision.
  • Strong negotiating skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Reports directly to the Director of Stores.
  • Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
