Position Summary

Help power the movement of energy across the country. As a Senior Business Systems Analyst on Marathon Petroleum's Digital Rail team, you'll play a key role in advancing the technology that supports the safe and efficient transportation of crude oil and refined products. In this highly collaborative role, you'll work alongside business leaders, product owners, vendors, and technology teams to deliver innovative digital solutions that enhance operational efficiency, improve visibility, strengthen compliance, and support critical business decisions. Your work will directly contribute to keeping refineries running and ensuring fuel reaches the communities and customers who depend on it every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops a strong understanding of Rail business processes, including rail services, inside-the-gate operations, gate-to-gate operations, maintenance and reliability, and associated commercial and accounting processes.
  • Leads improvement recommendations and presents effectively to senior and executive management and global teams.
  • Presents and leads client meetings with the business, development teams, and third-party solution providers. Communicates with senior leaders for understanding and execution of cross-functional complex processes and applications to solve for client requirements.
  • Leads business requirements gathering, current- and future-state process mapping, fit-gap analysis, and development of functional specifications for new solutions and enhancements.
  • Provides recommendations for appropriate systems alternatives and/or enhancements to current systems.
  • Partners with business teams to develop ways to investigate business performance and other measures to gain insight and drive business planning.
  • Leads and serves as a senior resource on cost-benefit and return-on-investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Supports product and application lifecycle activities, including roadmap development, backlog prioritization, release planning, application support readiness, and retirement of legacy capabilities.
  • Coordinates vendor-supported solutions by helping manage functional expectations, issue resolution, enhancement priorities, service performance, and alignment with business needs
  • Serves as a resource to colleagues, mentors, and helps improve the team's abilities around all IT Service Management (ITSM) disciplines deployed.
  • Leads the development, execution, and creation of the cross-functional testing strategy, communicating with all stakeholders for technology delivery.
  • Leads the planning, conducting, and documenting of user stories, and user feedback. Effectively communicates feedback with senior leaders for technology improvement.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Systems, related field or equivalent experience
  • Logistics domain knowledge is required, experience with rail operations, transportation, and maintenance & reliability is strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant experience required

  • Continuous Improvement Mindset - Identifies and leads opportunities for continuous improvement and value creation, both incremental and large-scale.
  • Incident Management - Ensuring that any incidents affecting processes and performances of relevant technology services or systems are managed appropriately to mitigate risk and minimize disruption.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.
