Full Job Description

TheSenior Business Intelligence Engineerdevelops and supports the tools, technologies, applications, datasets, pipelines, and reporting solutions used to collect, integrate, analyze, and present data in order to create insightful and actionable business information.

The role also serves as a key intake point for claims-related questions and requests, many of which are ambiguous and require independent research, stakeholder coordination, data discovery, and solution design. In addition, this position will play an important role in the teams ongoing transition from current data environments into Databricks and will help support upcoming AI/ML and generative AI use cases.

The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will:

  • Maintain and enhance claims-related data pipelines, curated datasets, semantic/reporting layers, dashboard refresh processes, and recurring analytics assets.
  • Partner with market, finance, operations, corporate, and technology stakeholders to understand business needs and translate ambiguous requests into scalable data and reporting solutions.
  • Research data availability, source systems, data ownership, business definitions, lineage, and appropriate technical approaches for claims-related intake requests.
  • Write complex, performant SQL queries and develop Power BI dashboards, reports, and analytical products that support decision-making.
  • Build and support data engineering solutions in Databricks, including pipelines, transformations, workflows, and automation.
  • Support migration and modernization efforts as data and reporting processes transition from existing platforms into Databricks.
  • Contribute to emerging AI/ML and generative AI initiatives, including solutions that leverage structured and unstructured healthcare data.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Minimum 5 years of SQL experience, including writing complex queries to extract, transform, summarize, and analyze data from multiple sources
  • Minimum 2 years of experience utilizing Databricks data engineering, including building and maintaining pipelines, workflows, and data transformation processes
  • Experience developing business intelligence dashboards and reports using Power BI or similar visualization tools.
  • Demonstrated analytical experience, including the ability to work through ambiguous business requests, perform data discovery, and develop actionable solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Work-At-Home Requirements

  • At minimum, a download speed of 25 mbps and an upload speed of 10 mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested
  • Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership
  • Associates who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.
  • Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.
  • Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • Experience with Python and/or PySpark for data engineering, analytics, automation, or AI/ML use cases.
  • Exposure to AI/ML, generative AI, or retrieval-augmented generation concepts, preferably within Databricks or a similar cloud analytics platform.
  • Experience with healthcare data, particularly claims-related data, provider data, or healthcare finance/operations analytics.
  • Experience creating and maintaining automated ETL/ELT processes and recurring reporting datasets.
  • Familiarity with PowerApps or other low-code tools used to support business workflows and reporting solutions.
  • Experience supporting data platform migration, cloud modernization, or lakehouse-based analytics initiatives.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


$89,000 - $121,400 per year


This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
