Summary

Bell Media is seeking a Head of Business Affairs, In-House Production to lead strategic oversight of all business, legal, and rights-related matters for internally produced content. This role acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and executive producers, supporting decision-making across production, distribution, and partnerships. The position provides leadership on deal-making, rights strategy, and compliance, while ensuring alignment with union frameworks and corporate policies.

This role also supports lifestyle and entertainment production teams by providing practical guidance and building organizational capability in areas such as rights clearances, copyright, and fair dealing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and advise senior leadership team and executive producers on various business and legal issues related to content production, rights clearances, distribution and other issues as needed.
  • Negotiate and prepare producer, talent, license and other agreements for in-house production shows and specials and distribution initiatives;
  • Work with the Legal, Production and Finance teams to manage business issues related to in-house productions and related distribution and co-production deals.
  • Provide guidance to all production units on day-to-day production related clearance, music rights and fair dealing questions.
  • Manage and supervise all rights issues related to music clearance and in-house production.
  • Act as a liaison on CTV collective agreements related to production: consult and advise production units on union rates and obligations under current union agreements and report activities to union representatives.
  • Manage and supervise the business affairs and music licensing team.
  • Conduct clearance training and copyright information sessions for Bell Media networks and units


Critical Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years work experience in media production related business affairs at either an independent production company or broadcaster.
  • Proven expertise with reading, negotiating and drafting various types of production and media agreements.
  • Experience negotiating with lawyers and agents.
  • Experience with project and staff management.
  • Experience with live events, music, digital production and their related agreements is an asset.
  • Experience building strong relationships with internal stakeholders as well as external vendors and clients.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Content regulations and tax credits.
  • Working knowledge of artist collective agreements (e.g.: ACTRA, WGC, etc)
  • Basic understanding of Canadian copyright law and working knowledge of Fair Dealing.
  • Understanding of all the elements of production and post-production process.
  • Post-secondary degree required.
  • Superior decision making and problem-solving skills and thrives under the pressure of short deadlines in a high-volume production environment.


Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
