In the role of Senior Building Mechanical Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Lead the work of the mechanical design team throughout all project phases ranging from feasibility studies, programming, conceptual design, schematic design, construction documents, construction administration, commissioning, and project close-out
    • Write and edit mechanical specifications to fit project requirements
    • Review mechanical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines
    • Understand fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for different applications
    • Ability to perform psychrometric calculations for analyzing and selecting HVAC systems and equipment
    • Develop sections and elevations for complex ductwork and piping areas
    • Develop air and water flow diagrams
    • Coordinate HVAC system control requirements and intended modes of operation with controls engineers to develop control diagrams, point lists, and sequences of operation
    • Visit project sites as requested to verify existing conditions or as contractually required to monitor construction progress and prepare field observation reports
  • Establish meetings and participates in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Responsible to coordinate workload, complete project assignments and deliverables on schedule
  • Conduct virtual / on-site work sessions for projects in conjunction with other disciplines, owners, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders including presentations, etc.
  • Experience in developing project hours to complete mechanical design documents for RFP's
  • Coordinate and assist affected disciplines with project addenda, RFIs, change proposal requests, and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Develop plumbing riser diagrams
  • Perform plumbing calculations (Storm, drainage and supply fixture units)
  • Size equipment and plumbing piping (pumps, water heater, drainage pipes, natural gas piping, valves, etc)
  • Develop and edit Masterspec specifications to be project specific. This includes taking raw specifications and/or developing specifications from basis of design manufacturer's.
  • Work with the Project Manager, Regional Controller and Regional Director for project reviews with corporate management as needed
  • Actively participate in the education of inexperienced engineers.
  • Other duties as required


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical Focus
  • Understanding of applicable design codes and specification requirements
  • Significant experience designing complex and large-scale laboratory and healthcare facilities and/or data centers
  • Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office
  • Experience using load calculation software, energy modeling software, and manufacturer equipment selection software
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Take ownership of assignments and work both independently and as part of a large project team
  • Strongly motivated, well organized, and showing professional initiative
  • Focused on client outcomes
  • Candidate with strong mentoring skills is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of Building Codes in Washington State and how to obtain building codes from other states.
  • Knowledge of Plumbing and HVAC Fundamentals and Design.
  • Previous experience with an A/E/C firm
  • Active participation in industry organizations is encouraged. Participation in professional development seminars, courses, workshops, or conferences is encouraged and should be approved in advance of attendance.

  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
