Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy experienced Senior Biomedical Engineer to support the Axiom Space Human Health, Performance, and Operations (HHPO) team. This work will include supporting Private Astronaut Missions (PAM), Axiom Station integration/development, Axiom Suits integration/development, and representing medical operations interests in the various internal/external organizations requiring input.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, integrate, and facilitate all human health and performance objectives for ongoing and upcoming Private Astronaut Missions (PAM).
  • Support missions as a flight controller from MCC-A, interfacing with control centers across the globe.
  • Develop, in collaboration with core systems and the medical operations team, requirements, concepts of operations, processes, on-orbit procedures, flight rules, software tools, console support products, and other documentation required to support Axiom Station design and assembly.
  • Build out a medical hardware/software suite for Axiom Station and assist in certification/testing/flight.
  • Integrate with Axiom Suits to ensure human health and performance objectives are met in a safe and timely manner.
  • Monitor crew health status and environmental data during all mission types and flight phases; manage/maintain PHI/PII for HHPO, payloads, and other teams as applicable.
  • Advocate for crew health and wellbeing for all mission types and flight phases.
  • Aid in the development, management, and implementation of training plans for teams supporting or interfacing with medical operations at Axiom Space.
  • Mentor, support, and train new members of the HHPO team and Mission Services.
  • Work shifts on weekends and holidays as required in support of mission duties.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Communicating project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership
  • Implementing and maintaining agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle
  • Perform additional job duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
  • BS degree in an engineering or science discipline required
  • 3+ years' relevant BME experience required
  • Previous flight controller certification required
  • Experience as a mission lead required
  • Knowledge and awareness of NASA and Medical requirements for astronaut safety and health
  • Familiarity with NASA flight rules for crew safety
  • Knowledge of NASA requirements and ability to interface with appropriate NASA organizations
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Jama, and the Agile development process
  • Experience with Box
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to address project challenges.
  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills to meet tight deadlines and quality objectives
  • Highly proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones


Physical Requirements
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)
