Overview

Chenega Services and Federal Solutions, LLC., a Chenega Professional Services' company, is looking for a Senior Bacteriology Technician to support bacteriology research programs focused on bacterial pathogenesis, vaccine and therapeutic evaluation, microbiological testing, molecular biology, and laboratory operations. The position performs laboratory procedures, sample processing, molecular and microbiological testing, animal study support, inventory management, laboratory compliance activities, data analysis, and scientific reporting in support of bacteriology research efforts. The incumbent supports Principal Investigators and laboratory leadership through execution of scientific studies, assay development, laboratory management activities, equipment validation, and maintenance of BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory operations while performing duties consistent with a Laboratory Technician 5 level position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sample processing for 4 animal protocols.
  • Equipment Inventory Management twice a year; BSL-2 and BSL-3 Laboratory Management monthly.
  • Perform up to 4 Equipment Validations and up to 4 Method Validations per year
  • Perform approximately 20 complement fixation assays.
  • Perform approximately 6 Small Animal studies, murine model
  • Perform approximately 5 minimum inhibition concentration antibiotic testing.
  • Assist PI with Non-human primate (NHP) studies as necessary, these will support vaccine/therapeutic efforts or animal modeling efforts for bacterial pathogens of interest to the DoD.
  • Perform RT-PCR and qPCR analyses.
  • Perform approximately 25 Cell Biology/Biochemical/microbiological tasks. Performs laboratory tests, such as protein gel electrophoresis, western blot analysis, growth of macrophage cell lines, bacterial growth assays, live-dead cell determinations, prepares microbiological media for bacterial cultures.
  • Process approximately 40 protein and western gels per year.
  • Complete approximately 40 DNA chromosomal preparations, 500 PCR reactions; and 35 Agar gel analysis per year.
  • Prepare approximately 20 cloning plasmids, approximately 50 sequencing reactions, and approximately 90 plasmid preparations.
  • Be responsible for ordering equipment and supplies (50 GFEBS orders per year). Contractor is Sub-hand receipt holder for equipment.
  • Perform BSAT Inventory Management weekly
  • Conduct Equipment Inventory Management twice a year in BSL-2 and BSL-3
  • Perform monthly Laboratory Management to include safety functions and chemical inventory.
  • Perform and provide support to approximately 20 Cell Based Assays. These assays are designed to examine vaccine/therapeutic potency and allow understanding of pathogen host interactions.
  • Perform at least 20 macrophage invasion assays. Acceptable outputs include colony forming unit (CFU) determinations, cytokine analysis, or high-content imaging.
  • Assist suite supervisor with all required duties for BSL-2 and BSL-3 operations.
  • Review relevant literature monthly. May assist in the preparation standard operating procedures and manuscripts relating to their research efforts. The Contractor may be expected to present research findings at one scientific conference per year, which may require CONUS or OCONUS travel. Contractor shall present results in written and oral format publicly and internally as requested.
  • Provide 1 Bacteriology Technical Support monthly report to TPOC by the last working day of the month. Report would include materials and methods, data and data analysis and should be updated monthly.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline and seven (7) or more years of related laboratory experience; OR Master's degree in a related scientific discipline and three (3) or more years of related laboratory experience.
  • CS-PRP enrollment is required and shall be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations.
  • BPRP enrollment is required and shall be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations.
  • Experience performing laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and scientific support functions in bacteriology, microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related scientific disciplines.
  • Experience independently performing complex laboratory procedures and scientific protocols.
  • Experience supporting microbiological, molecular biology, and laboratory animal research activities.
  • Experience collecting, documenting, analyzing, and reporting laboratory and research data.
  • Experience supporting laboratory operations, equipment management, inventory control, laboratory safety, and biosafety requirements.
  • Experience participating in development of research work plans and execution of research programs.
  • Experience training and mentoring laboratory personnel.
  • Ability to support laboratory biosafety requirements and laboratory space management activities.
  • Successfully pass background and drug screening


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting bacteriology, biodefense, infectious disease, vaccine, or therapeutic research programs.
  • Experience performing RT-PCR, qPCR, complement fixation assays, cell-based assays, and macrophage invasion assays.
  • Experience supporting laboratory animal studies, murine studies, and Non-Human Primate (NHP) studies.
  • Experience performing protein gel electrophoresis, western blotting, DNA preparation, cloning, sequencing, and microbiological techniques.
  • Experience supporting BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory operations.
  • Experience performing equipment validation and method validation activities.
  • Experience supporting BSAT inventory management and laboratory compliance functions.
  • Experience preparing SOPs, manuscripts, scientific reports, and technical presentations.
  • Experience serving in laboratory operational support or laboratory leadership support roles.
