Clyde & Co Canada has an opening for a senior associate lawyer in Western Canada (Vancouver, Calgary or Winnipeg) with experience in insurance coverage and monitoring. The candidate could also be called upon to plead before the courts on certain coverage matters, if desired. The candidate will also be asked to provide coverage advice to insurers across a broad spectrum of policies such as CGL, wrap up, professional indemnity, cyber product liability and recall, D&O, crime and others.

Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze coverage under various policies to advise insurer clients.
- Undertake coverage investigations and have conduct of coverage disputes.
- Represent our London and North American-based insurer clients in the management of coverage matters in Canada.
- Acting as monitoring counsel in matters where defence counsel has been retained but coverage remains a critical component for consideration.
- Recommend and appoint defence lawyers who will act on our clients’ behalf under the direction of the litigation management lawyer.
- Coordinate and manage the information received from the defence lawyers and the client.
- Maintain relations with the insurers.
- Participate in mediation sessions as an insurer representative.
- Conducting research and providing legal analysis.
- Attending B.C., Alberta, Manitoba or other Canadian Bar Association events for the purpose of professional and business development opportunities.
- Meeting other related business needs or priorities as they may arise from time to time.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Graduate from a recognized University / Common Law School and qualified to practice law in the Province of British Columbia, Alberta or Manitoba (member in good standing with their provincial Law Society).
- Having five (5) to seven (7) years of post-qualification experience in private practice or in-house, specifically in insurance coverage analysis under insurance policies
- Relevant experience would also include a focus on general insurance and professional indemnity.

- Sound judgement and legal reasoning, great analytical skills and creativity in solving problems.
- Ability to develop strategies, present a clear plan to the client, and communicate instructions rigorously and precisely.

The salary range of $170,000 to $185,000 —based on experience level and overall qualifications—represents our firm’s reasonable expectation of pay at the time of posting, in accordance with BC’s Pay Transparency Act.
