Job Description:

The Senior Assistant Dean for Academic Programs leads the Office of Student Services and provides collaborative leadership for the strategic planning, implementation, and assessment of services and activities to promote students' academic, career, community/civic, and transfer success. Specific areas of responsibility include: first-year student engagement and retention; academic persistence and success; articulation services and transfer planning. In addition, the Dean assists in monitoring the college's academic progress policy, community standards, and student behavior, managing the CRM resource for all student services, and faculty training in CRM usage to facilitate student support and success. This position reports to the Dean of the Massry School of Business.

Essential Functions:
  • Frame services for each assigned area of operation, to support a career-based student success model, to support students' career goals, including attainment of the academic and career competencies required for success.
  • Lead and provide oversight for seamless integration and coordination of proactive support services aimed to enhance student's abilities to succeed through first-year student engagement and transition to college; career and academic goal setting; academic persistence to successful completion, including early alert, academic progress, and intervention strategies.
  • Lead and provide oversight for proactive support services to enhance students' job search preparation to attain employment, and transfer planning to attain an advanced degree, as appropriate to their identified career goals.
  • Engage all reporting staff to assist students in the development and attainment of individual Student Success Plans that include academic, career, and transfer goals, related competencies, and strategies for achievement throughout their enrollment at the school. Partner with Learning Support, Counseling, Student Life, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Records/Registration, Business Office, faculty, and several college committees to further strengthen efforts.
  • Work with the Enrollment Management teams to ensure that the enrollment processes for all student types are obstacle free and done in a manner that facilitates and strengthens a seamless registration process , and communicate with staff ways to improve upon processes to support student enrollment.
  • Lead and manage direct reports/team (Administrative Assistant I, Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Advising & Student Engagement and the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs) providing guidance, support, and performance feedback to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the University's mission. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Complete performance management feedback and goals in a timely manner and per requirements, offering constructive feedback and developing improvement plans.
  • Infuse use of technologies to enhance coordination and delivery of support services for students. Supervise and provide support to the advisor that supports appointment scheduling and CRM student support technology systems, communicate with students through the CRM, provide utilization data and reports from the CRM student system, provide training to CRM users to support student success, and provide updates and suggestions for continual improvement of student support utilizing the CRM.
  • Lead efforts to develop and implement assessment strategies to measure effectiveness in meeting goals and identify strengths and strategies to enhance service quality and student outcomes. As per the college's academic standing and progress policy, coordinate interventions to support students' capacity to academically persist, recover, and succeed.
  • Collaborate across schools and college operations to further strengthen efforts, coordinate strategies, assess effectiveness, and enhance students' retention, persistence, engagement, and academic, and career success outcomes. Identify and recommend additional resources/tools to support efforts to improve students' academic/career success.
  • Manage budgets and assist in the annual development of proposals for the Office of Student Services.
  • Interpret and maintain compliance with college policies and procedures, recommending revision as needed.
  • Participate in professional organizations and travel to conferences to build networks and program visibility.

Other information related to this position:
  • Serve as a non-voting member of the Massry Curriculum Committee.
  • Serve as the lead administrator of all graduate programs.
  • Serve as liaison between the Dean's Office, the Graduate School, and faculty on graduate academic issues.
  • Supervise academic program data reporting for ranking agencies, AACSB, and SUNY.
  • Must be available to attend Masry School of Business events that support strategic initiatives.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
  • Reports to the Dean of The Massry School of Business.
  • Supervises the following positions: Administrative Assistant I, Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs, and Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Advising and Engagement.

Working Environment:
  • Typical office environment
  • Have the ability to travel 15-20% of the time to conferences and student engagement/recruitment related activities


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, Business, or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years employed in a student affairs leadership role in higher education, which includes responsibilities such as advising, mentoring, and supporting students.
  • A minimum of five (5) years as a supervisor with responsibility for a diverse group of professional staff.
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans to enhance student engagement, retention, and success.
  • Experience navigating Slate/Technolutions or other Admissions processing and/or Communication Management Systems.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, Business, or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Background in assessing and evaluating student services and programs to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Experience serving on curriculum committees and familiarity with shared governance.
