Full Job Description
The Department of Financial Services is seeking candidates for the position of Senior Artificial Intelligence (AI) Specialist in the Research & Innovation Division. Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Superintendent for AI & Data Analytics, the incumbent will spend 50% of their time supporting the Department's responsible adoption, governance, and use of artificial intelligence, and 50% of their time working with the Innovation Policy Unit supporting the Department's policy development, supervisory evaluation and testing, and tasks related to regulated entities' use of artificial intelligence. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Supports implementation of the Department's AI governance framework, policies, procedures, standards, and related guidance; • Supports the Department's policy development, supervisory analysis and testing, and tasks related to regulated entities' use of AI. Assists in drafting policy recommendations and contributes extensively to the analysis of policy proposals; • Researches, identifies, and assesses current and emerging risks related to AI, and presents recommendations for action. Maintains a thorough understanding of AI technologies, industry developments, and government policies; • Reviews proposed AI use cases and works with business teams to document business problems, workflows, data sources, intended outputs and operational requirements; • Supports the review and implementation of AI use cases for potential governance, operational, data and technology risks and assists with documenting appropriate safeguards and human oversight requirements; • Coordinates AI requests and reviews with relevant stakeholders and supports the AI Governance Committee. Maintains documentation, records, and inventories of AI systems, pilots, use cases; • Evaluates and helps assess regulated entities' use of AI; • Supports the development and maintenance of partnerships with internal and external persons and entities and meets with outside stakeholders to discuss programs and projects; and • Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications • At least two years of professional experience working with artificial intelligence, AI governance, technology risk or artificial intelligence policy. • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, cybersecurity, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience demonstrating comparable technical knowledge. Appointment Method: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications listed below in order to be eligible for appointment. Non-Competitive: Seven (7) years of specialized experience in one (1) of the following: • Research, planning, administration, and/or analysis of the policies and procedures affecting regulated entities and how they conduct business activities with the public and/or other regulated entities. • Research and analysis of State and federal statutes and regulations and their effects upon the business activities of financial services entities with regard to the public and/or other financial services entities. Substitutions: An associate degree may substitute for two years of specialized experience; bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of specialized experience; master's degree may substitute for five years of specialized experience; J.D. may substitute for six years of specialized experience Additional Comments Please note that a change in negotiating unit may affect your salary, insurance and other benefits. Salary: The starting salary for this position is $90,582 with periodic increases up to $114,585 Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $4,150 annual downstate adjustment.
