About the role

The US Wellness team supports the development of new Wellness products for Consumer Healthcare brands for the US and Canada markets. Analytical Science is a specialized discipline providing support for new product development, by developing, validating, and transferring state-of-the-art robust methods that enable the growth of the Consumer Health Business.

The Sr. Analytical Scientist, US Wellness' primary job function is to execute technical strategies in analytical chemistry focused on the delivery of innovation in the Consumer Healthcare network. In addition, this role may lead complex problem solving and troubleshoot/solve analytical methodology issues in the Consumer Healthcare network. This role is familiar with metals analysis, HPLC, GC, quantitative Mass Spectrometry, and other detection technologies. This role displays continuing growth of knowledge of analytical chemistry. The role requires close collaboration with new product development.

Role Responsibilities

  • Serves as a technical expert who executes all aspects of analytical development.

  • Has advanced knowledge of varied aspects or a specialized aspect of a discipline and working knowledge of principles and concepts in other relevant disciplines. Applies technical and functional knowledge to design experiments, assist in project design, and creates innovative methodologies.

  • Provides scientific leadership within the analytical team and interfaces with internal and external partners including Regulatory, Quality, Haleon commercial colleagues and third party commercial research organizations (CRO/CMO).

  • Serves as the Analytical Lead/SME representative on project teams.

  • Leads or participates in due diligence, new business opportunities and product assessments as required.

  • Performs and/or directs method development, validation / transfer activities for the testing/characterization of Wellness products without supervision.

  • Troubleshoots complex instrumentation issues and solves complex analytical problems.

  • Has a strong understanding of GMP requirements and CHR&D policies/procedures.

  • Ensures all applicable training is completed prior to conducting any GMP scientific work.

  • Follows CHR&D documentation policies and practices when recording and documenting scientific work as well as performs peer reviews of scientific data and reports. 

  • Recognizes atypical data and leads the investigation to determine root cause.

  • Produces effective presentations and possesses writing skills able to appropriately tailor message for audience which could include internal or external partners, management, scientific communities or Health Authorities.

  • PhD Degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry or other scientific area of expertise

  • MS Degree with 7+ years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry or other scientific area of expertise

  • BS Degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry or other scientific area of expertise

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in analytical sciences relevant to OTC, Dietary Supplements, or consumer products industry.

  • Proven ability to assist in developing scientifically sound and robust methods of analysis to be used for release and stability testing and complex problem solving

  • Experience in one or more of HPLC, GC and dissolution method development and validation

  • Knowledge in project management, including understanding requirements for various testing needs.

  • Ability to resolve instrumentation issues effectively

  • Ability to serve as primary contact and leader for managing daily project tasks and overseeing project progress.

  • Extensive experience (5 to 10 years) in the area of analytical sciences relevant to OTC, Dietary Supplements, or consumer products industry. Experience conducting metals analysis utilizing ICP-OES, as well as chromatographic analyses utilizing LC-Mass Spectrometry for analyte quantitation.

  • Proven ability to develop scientifically sound and robust methods of analysis to be used for release and stability testing and complex problem solving.

  • Good communication skills in a matrix environment.

  • Ability to present to internal and external teams.  

  • A passion for science is essential given the critical importance of technical expertise for the success of the organization.

Location: This role is based in Richmond, VA with expectation of working in the laboratory 5 days per week.

Salary: The expected salary range for this role is $118,742 - $160,112.
