Summary of Role:

The Research, Analytics, Assessment, & Data Department at Denver Public Schools is seeking a Senior Analyst to join the Student Data Analytics team. The individual in this role will independently lead end-to-end analytical and research initiatives, from framing complex or ambiguous problems through delivering actionable insights and recommendations to senior leaders and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is both a technical expert and an effective communicator, bringing an inquisitive mindset and advanced analytical methods to contribute to the development and dissemination of rigorous education research across the district.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead and deliver complex, high impact analytical and research workstreams, serving as the primary point of contact for assigned focus areas.
  • Independently frame ambiguous or complex problems by defining research questions, analytic approaches, success criteria, and hypotheses, and by guiding execution from data validation through synthesis and stakeholder presentation
  • Support the development and execution of rigorous observational studies, surveys, program evaluations, and quasi-experimental designs.
  • Partner with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify and define research questions that support district goals.
  • Own end-to-end execution of research projects from problem framing through delivery, including determining suitable data sources, study designs, and statistical modeling approaches.
  • Develop metrics and performance indicators that support district-wide decision-making.
  • Prepare and present analytical findings and recommendations to senior leadership, the Board, and external stakeholders, translating complex analyses into clear, compelling narratives and visualizations.
  • Facilitate data-informed meetings and discussions, guiding stakeholders through interpretation of findings, surfacing implications and trade offs, and supporting alignment on decisions and next steps.
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and credibility of analyses and data products, adhering to data governance, privacy, and quality standards.
  • Serve as a trusted analytical advisor and subject matter expert, partnering across departments to address complex, cross-functional challenges and evaluate strategic options and/or support additional work, as assigned
  • Lead predictive modeling and forecasting analyses that support long-term district planning.
  • Provide analytic quality assurance and validation of colleagues' analyses.
  • Build analytical capacity across the district by developing internal methodological and analytical standards, guidelines, templates, and best practices, strengthening data literacy and effective data use.
  • Extract and evaluate large, complex datasets, ensuring data quality, integrity, and appropriate use.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Business, Mathematics/Statistics, Economics, Education, Social Sciences, Engineering, or related STEM fields
  • Master's or PhD Degree preferred, ideally in a social science discipline (e.g., Economics, Education, Psychology, Public Health, or Sociology)
  • Strong background in statistical and quantitative methodology for the social sciences, including experimental and quasi-experimental design for causal inference, multilevel/hierarchical modeling, longitudinal data analysis, measurement theory and psychometrics, and predictive analytics
  • Technical expertise in data management/curation (including cleaning, processing, and reshaping data across various sources for analysis) using R; experience with other statistical software (e.g., SQL, Python) a plus
  • Content experience working in an educational, social science, or youth-focused research area
  • Demonstrated track record of independently executing a complete research workflow from conceptualization to final product
  • Experience in at least 3 of the following areas:
    • Research, Education, Public Health, Psychology, Social Policy, Sociology, Statistics, Program Evaluation, Technical expertise: Business Intelligence, Reporting, Dashboarding / Visualizations, Data Science, Analytics, Programming. Analysis and modeling: Data Analysis, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Data Modeling
    • experience with other statistical software (SQL, Python) and other programming a plus
  • Experience creating ad-hoc data-based reports for decision making, including KPIs, scorecards, and dashboards preferred

  • High degree of integrity and professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive data, maintaining data privacy, security, and ethical standards
  • Manage up and serve as a trusted analytical advisor, effectively navigating organizational and political dynamics to shape stakeholder expectations and support informed, context-aware decision-making.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable advocate and spokesperson for assigned focus area(s), representing analytical findings clearly and credibly
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to translate highly technical analyses, research methods, and evaluation processes into clear, accessible, and actionable insights for diverse audiences
  • Work collaboratively in a diverse environment with a variety of district and school leaders, staff and students
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, deadline driven environment with evolving expectations while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
