Title: Senior Advisor - Disaster Risk Management
Employee Working Location: Partially Virtual / Hybrid (anywhere within Canada)
Employment Status: Temporary Full-time (12 Months)
In this role, you will:- Provide evidence-based technical advice and support to CRC teams and National Societies to strengthen disaster preparedness, readiness and response capacity, as well as community resilience.
- Provide technical support on National Society Preparedness (NSP) and the Preparedness for Effective Response (PER) approach, including preparedness assessments, analysis, planning, follow-up and learning, and support the application of relevant PER tools and approaches.
- Support National Societies to strengthen preparedness and response systems through technical advice on areas such as DRM strategies and policies, contingency planning, Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs), Information Management (IM), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Provide technical support to strengthen National Society preparedness, readiness and response capacities, including in operational contexts, by identifying capacity gaps and supporting context-appropriate solutions.
- Provide technical advice on community and climate resilience, including Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Nature-based Solutions (NbS), and support their integration with National Society preparedness and CRC programming.
- Contribute to the development, review and application of DRM, NSP and PER tools, guidance, training and learning resources, supporting quality, consistency, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Build capacity and facilitate learning through training, workshops, technical sessions and experience sharing for CRC staff, National Societies and partners.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with National Societies, IFRC, ICRC and CRC teams and partners, supporting coherent approaches to DRM and strengthening alignment across preparedness, response and recovery.
- Contribute to global and regional DRM and PER initiatives, including technical guidance, knowledge development and representation of CRC in relevant forums and technical engagements.
What we are looking for:- University degree in disaster management, environmental sciences, livelihood programming, land and water management, food security or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 8 years of experience working for a humanitarian organization, including at least 3 years working in a developing-country context, with experience in institutional and community disaster preparedness and resilience building.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in project management, representation and strategic planning, with demonstrated experience in developing systems and processes to support disaster preparedness and response.
- Demonstrated technical experience in National Society preparedness and/or PER, with expertise in supporting one or more preparedness/PER components.
- Demonstrated experience in disaster risk reduction and resilience programming, including approaches related to DRR, CCA, NbS and/or community resilience.
- Experience in capacity strengthening of partner organizations, with experience working with Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating training, adult learning and knowledge or skills transfer, with experience using participatory approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results within tight timeframes, manage multiple initiatives and work effectively in complex and changing environments.
- Familiarity with IFRC principles, policies, preparedness and response procedures and tools, as well as relevant Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement approaches and tools.
- Strong written and oral English and French skills are required, along with strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and teamwork skills, adaptability, initiative and a commitment to RCRC Principles and integrity.
