Full Job Description
Group Benefits offers various insurance products that provide protection to employees and group members. The business sits at the center of Manulife's Canadian Division strategic plans to promote our Health & Wellness strategy and generate cross-selling opportunities. The mandate of Group Benefits Pricing is to foster a highly engaged team that serves as a trusted adviser to the business as it pertains to pricing and risk management. The role presents a unique challenge and opportunity to balance the needs of clients (plan sponsors), plan members, the sales team (top line) and shareholders (bottom line).

In this role, the successful candidate will be exposed to a wide variety of projects and will collaborate with several key partners such as Underwriting, Product, Group Finance Reporting and Distribution teams.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Support the periodic monitoring of key pricing drivers to help ensure the appropriateness of current pricing assumptions and strategies in place.
  • Present results and recommendations to the manager as well as other affected personnel in the actuarial area as well as the line functions.
  • Implement recommendations where deemed necessary by leader, by working with line area to incorporate change into the existing system and manual procedures
  • Maintain an awareness of GB activities and may initiate own projects as problem areas are identified. See the project through by ensuring that recommendations are heard and that necessary implementation results.
  • Proactively respond to queries and concerns of customers (e.g. Underwriting, Product, Group Finance Reporting and Distribution teams) or other areas by investigating issues and communicating required information.
  • May have supervisory responsibility for one actuarial assistant and assigns work, provides direction and guidance in its completion. Provide guidance to actuarial assistants in the use of computer programs.


Required Qualifications:
  • Current ASA designation or in progress with advanced degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years of experience
  • Superior aptitude and efficiency with MS office. Desire to learn new technology.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and good presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships with various stakeholders
  • Good project management skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with data and analytics tools such as SQL, R, Python, SAS or Databricks is considered an asset.
  • Personnel supervision skill is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience in Group Benefits business will be considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

Salary range is expected to be between
$93,125.00 CAD - $143,125.00 CAD
