Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional who thrives in dynamic environments and can seamlessly move between strategic leadership and hands-on execution. The Financial Accounting Manager's focus will be varied as they will assist in the preparation, review and submission of a variety of regulatory forms, reports, and returns; supporting tax processes; will perform financial analysis; and assist in general ledger accounting and financial reporting. This position is responsible for the performance and completion of special projects as assigned by and at the direction of departmental leadership. Assigned projects would include determining, interpreting, and calculating financial transactions applying complex accounting and regulatory rules, supporting the Controller, Principal Accounting Manager and CFO, and providing leadership and guidance to Accountants and Accounting Assistants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Key responsibilities:
  • Respond to accounting procedure inquiries by researching and interpreting regulatory, accounting and tax guidance including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulatory reporting instructions, and internal procedures.
  • Gather and produce a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual reports for management; ensure reports are accurate, complete and prepared on schedule.
  • Gather and assist in the production of a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual tax filings and other regulatory reports; ensure reports are accurate, complete and prepared on schedule.
  • Participate in the preparation of financial regulatory reports in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements with attention to format completeness, proper classification of amounts, accounting procedures, sound judgement and adequate supporting documentation.
  • Crosstrain on a variety of accounting functions that may include accounts payable, fixed assets, investment accounting.
  • Review general ledger accounts and prepare and adjust journal entries.
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliations; review and assist with others' reconciliations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for external auditors. Participate in preparation and support of all external audits.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls and financial safeguards and assist in internal control-related projects
  • Complete and pass all assigned eLearning courses and certifications as required.
  • Adhere to bank policies and procedures designed to comply with Federal regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and OFAC regulations.
  • Avoid all real or perceived conflicts of interest and always maintain company and client privacy and confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business is required; CPA is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in accounting and/or tax with a bank or accounting/CPA firm.
  • Banking industry experience and familiarity with banking regulatory reports is preferred.
  • Experience with accounting for mergers and acquisitions is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Great team player with solid interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to be a superior strategic thinker and simultaneously take initiative to execute on the details.
  • Highly proficient with spreadsheets and database queries, including considerable experience with Excel and accountancy software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and abstract reasoning skills; possess a natural ability for being detail oriented and accurate with numbers and reporting.
  • Strong ability to organize and complete multiple projects under strict deadlines.
  • Levelheaded and able to thrive in a dynamic and complex environment.
