Senior Manager - Accounting

A large, complex government services organization is seeking a Senior Manager - Accounting to support a highly regulated, project-based operating environment. The organization has experienced substantial growth through long-term federal contracts and strategic expansion initiatives, creating a sophisticated accounting and compliance landscape that requires strong operational leadership and technical expertise.

This position will serve as a key leader within the accounting organization, overseeing close processes, cost allocations, financial governance, and audit readiness within a government contracting environment. The ideal candidate is hands-on, process-oriented, and capable of operating independently while partnering closely with finance leadership and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and independently manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
  • Oversee cost allocations, indirect rates, and financial reporting within a regulated government contracting environment
  • Ensure accuracy across reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and project accounting activities
  • Support audits and compliance initiatives including DCAA, SOX, and other regulatory requirements
  • Analyze financial results, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions
  • Partner cross-functionally with finance, project, and systems teams to support operational and strategic initiatives
  • Drive process improvements across accounting operations, reporting, and systems workflows
  • Support forecasting and long-range planning activities in partnership with FP&A
  • Review work performed by accounting staff and provide technical guidance and mentorship
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure the integrity of financial reporting

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience within a government contracting environment
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, project accounting, and indirect cost structures
  • Experience managing complex close processes and financial reporting requirements
  • Expertise with ERP systems and advanced Excel-based analysis and modeling
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with senior leadership

Preferred Experience
  • CPA or related certification
  • Experience supporting large-scale or multi-entity government contracting organizations
  • Exposure to accounting system implementations, process optimization, or transformation initiatives
  • Familiarity with enterprise forecasting and planning tools
