Position OverviewThe Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the finance team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting in a project-based construction environment.
This role partners closely with the Controller, CFO, and operational leaders to provide financial insights that support decision-making, optimize project performance, and maintain compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules
- Perform job-cost accounting, variance analysis, and project profitability tracking
- Support revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and ASC 606 (percentage-of-completion)
- Collaborate with project managers and operations teams on cost forecasts and change order accounting
- Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), billing, and collections to support healthy cash flow
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and applicable regulations
- Assist with external audits, tax filings, and ESOP-related accounting requirements
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance controls, and leverage accounting systems

Requirements- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in construction or project-based accounting environments
- Strong understanding of job-cost accounting and revenue recognition methods
- Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., VISTA, HCSS, or similar) and advanced Excel skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Valid driver's license
Preferred:- CPA or CMA certification
- Experience in an ESOP or employee-owned company
- Familiarity with Arizona construction regulations (prevailing wage, DOT, aviation)
- Experience with ERP systems or process improvement initiatives
