About the Position Golden State Group is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to join the Accounting team in support of our growing business. This is a hands-on role designed for a technical professional who thrives on "owning the work" from initial entry to trial balance. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the preparation of complex financial data and the execution of monthly accounting cycles to ensure accuracy and GAAP and League compliance. We are looking for a "curious go-getter" who doesn't just record the numbers but seeks to understand the "why" behind the transaction. This position reports to the Director, Accounting. This is a full-time, on-site position located in San Francisco, CA. Key Responsibilities
  • Execute core accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, journal entry preparation, and month-end close processes for designated entities
  • Perform timely and accurate reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and analyze P&L variances to ensure financial results reflect underlying business activity
  • Prepare high-quality supporting documentation and schedules for annual audits; assist in drafting clear narratives for auditor inquiries
  • Review and analyze business contracts to identify accounting implications (revenue recognition, lease accounting, etc.); assist in drafting technical memos and in designing the end-to-end operational workflows to capture these transactions
  • Handle complex accounting tasks, including revenue recognition, expense accruals, and fixed asset management in accordance with GAAP
  • Record intercompany transactions, ensure proper elimination and settlement
  • Ensure controls are performed and documented consistently, and workpapers are audit ready at all times
  • Execute accounting records across different frameworks (e.g., GAAP vs League basis) and manage varying fiscal calendars, ensuring accurate "bridge" reconciliations between books
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for audit requests, providing high-quality documentation
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (FP&A, Legal, Operations) to understand new transactions and identify their accounting implications
  • Identify and raise opportunities for automation and efficiency; assist in drafting and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Support transformational projects and system implementations by participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT), providing requirements and business logic, and mapping data flows
  • Assist in the preparation of internal financial statement packages in various accounting methodologies (US GAAP & League Reporting)
  • Provide timely responses to financial inquiries from stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience. Prior experience with contract review is essential
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP (specifically ASC 606 and ASC 842); NBA League reporting requirements a plus
  • Proficient in Tier 1 ERP systems (e.g., Netsuite, Oracle, or SAP)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to explain the "why" behind complex settlements and reporting differences
  • Ability to partner cross-functionally with Legal and Operations to discuss contractual terms and business impacts
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth/dynamic environment
  • Exposure to system implementations or process transformation initiatives a plus
Compensation
  • $108,000 - $115,000 Per Year + Bonus
