BASIC FUNCTION
The Senior Accountant - PE Plant will be responsible for all plant accounting functions of Baystar's polyethylene production units with a strong emphasis on month-end closing, standard and actual costing of product grades, inventory movements and valuations, and variance analysis. This role ensures that internal controls for plant accounting are consistently improved and maintained. The Senior Accountant - PE Plant also interacts with other company functions including Plant Operations & Engineering, Supply Chain, R&D, FP&A, and IT personnel. The position must achieve expert level knowledge of all aspects of the company's manufacturing conversion process from ethylene to polyethylene.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Execute month-end close duties, including (but not limited to):
? Inventory mass balance and production reporting
? Standard Costing of components and next month build up
? Raw material usage verification and analysis
? Calculation and validation of FIFO inventories
? Actualization of standard costs and analysis of impacts
? Purchase price variance reconciliation
? Analyze impacts of the Ethylene transfer price to actual production costs
? Preparation of manual journal entries
? Variance analysis of variable and fixed costs of production
? Ensure accruals are posted and accurate
• On an ongoing basis analyze variances with balance sheet accounts and income/expense reports
• Create material master records in SAP as needed by the operational teams for raw materials and finished goods
• Prepare monthly variance analysis and KPI reporting packages for various management teams
• Prepare utilities variance analysis and energy consumption data reports.
• Liaison with the FP&A team for the annual the fixed/variable costs budget process
• Coordinate the annual Standard Costs update process in the SAP system for the new upcoming year
• Always ensure accuracy of inventory values. Evaluate risks inherent to inventory for slow moving or obsolete materials, and/or improper costing of inventory. Investigate all unusual inventory variances and help with root-cause corrective actions.
• Ensure goods receipts are properly accrued and matched with vendor invoices, so that outstanding items are cleared timely (GR/IR process). Ensure vendor invoices are properly processed by plant and purchasing personnel by coordinating and leading resolution efforts
• Be a resource for plant management on cost savings and efficiency improvements, including future automations
• Facilitate internal and external audit needs as needed.
• Perform additional ad-hoc analysis and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with at least 7 years overall professional experience and 4 years of applicable experience specific to manufacturing and cost accounting disciplines
• Working knowledge of cost accounting principles, manufacturing conversion concepts, and inventory valuation expertise.
• Experience analytically reviewing/analyzing accounting and financial data
• Ability to consistently meet deadlines and work longer hours during the monthly closing process
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal mediums
• Must be able to interpersonally relate and impart change across all organizational levels and functional areas
• Skilled at identifying, measuring, evaluating and improving the effectiveness of internal controls
• Thorough attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Working proficiency with Microsoft Office and especially Excel
• Knowledge of SAP
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
• Proven experience specific to manufacturing and cost accounting disciplines within the petrochemical industry (Polymers preferred)
• CPA or CMA
• Prior experience specific to month-end closings of petrochemical plant operations
PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the incumbent to:
• Follow safety requirements for the role
• Wear required PPE (eye protection, noise protection, etc.) when inside plant environment, or where directed by signage

• Walk safely in and around industrial areas
• Work under deadline pressure within an environment that demands attention to safety and detail
