DescriptionThis is professional level accounting/analytical work in the City's Finance Department. Employees in this class are responsible for performing specific analyses and completing financial reporting projects, as assigned. General and specific assignments are received from and reviewed by a professional superior; work is performed with little direct supervision and with some latitude for use of independent judgment in the selection of work methods and procedures. Work is reviewed for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, established departmental policies and standards, and attainment of desired objectives.
ADA REQUIREMENTS: Individual's sensory modalities (vision and hearing) and physical capabilities (ambulation, strength, coordination, dexterity, range of motion) must be sufficient to perform the Essential Functions of the position.
Examples of Duties - Analyzes and reconciles accounts, financial records, and prepares detailed accounting reports.
- Prepares a variety of journal entries related to the functions of the department.
- Performs revenue and balance sheet monitoring and analysis, including Bank Reconciliations.
- Reviews and approves invoices, requisitions, and budget transfers to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, to ensure sufficient documentation is provided and the appropriateness of account coding.
- Performs daily, monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes.
- Assists with the preparation of accounting reports, financial statements and on tasks related to a variety of special projects, including records requests, audits, quarterly reporting, budget, and FEMA reporting.
- Performs financial administration of Fiduciary Funds, Grants, loans and other contracts.
- Processes tax payments and maintains monthly file; reviews tax returns for accuracy and completion; analyzes and reconciles tax revenue reports.
- Supervises and reviews the work of clerical personnel.
- Uses office machines and equipment with skill and proficiency.

Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field and two (2) years accounting and/or financial experience or equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

- Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of office machines.
- Must be physically able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work involves reaching, pulling, pushing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and balancing, etc. for periods of time.
