Are we right for you...

Are you a CPA who enjoys resolving complex accounting issues, strengthening financial controls, and ensuring financial information is accurate, reliable, and meaningful?

Perhaps you've built a strong foundation in financial reporting and audit and are looking for an opportunity to broaden your impact through treasury management, financial analysis, reporting, compliance, and process improvement.

If you're someone who enjoys solving problems, partnering with stakeholders across an organization, and continuously improving how financial results are delivered and communicated, this could be the next step in your career.

Please note that this is a 12-month term opportunity.

In this role you will be asked to...

Lead full-cycle accounting activities and help support the financial health of BC Transit. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting and Treasury, you'll oversee financial close and reporting, account and module reconciliations, treasury operations, compliance activities, audits, and financial analysis while helping ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information across the organization.

You will prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual close including the creation and review of financial statements and reports, support internal and external stakeholders, and provide expertise on complex accounting matters. A strong understanding of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and financial reporting best practices will help you succeed in this role.

You will play a key role in audit activities, including preparing technical analysis and accounting position papers , supporting interim and year-end audit fieldwork, coordinating audit deliverables, and responding to auditor inquiries. Experience working directly with external auditors and managing audit processes will be highly valued.

In addition, you'll support treasury and fiscal management activities, monitor cash flow and working capital, prepare forecasts, help manage banking operations, and provide recommendations that support sound financial decision-making.

As a senior member of the team, you'll mentor colleagues, support cross-departmental initiatives, and identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, systems, and reporting practices.

What you might love about this role...

  • Broad Financial Exposure: You'll gain experience across financial reporting, treasury management, compliance, audits, financial analysis, and internal controls.
  • Complex Problem Solving: You'll help resolve accounting issues, prepare technical accounting position papers, set policy and develop solutions that support business objectives while maintaining compliance.
  • Continuous Improvement: You willimprove accounting processes, financial controls, systems, documentation, policies, and financial reporting practices.
  • A Collaborative Environment: You'll work alongside teams across the organization, providing financial expertise and helping support operational and strategic initiatives.

What to consider before applying...

  • Competing priorities and tight deadlines. This role supports monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles while balancing audit, treasury, and operational demands.
  • A hands-on role. Success requires actively engaging with reconciliations, analysis, audit support, and process improvements rather than focusing solely on oversight or review.

  • You don't enjoy investigating discrepancies, resolving complex system and accounting issues, or improving financial processes.
  • You are uncomfortable responding to auditors, preparing technical accounting positions, or working through compliance-related matters.
