Job Summary
The County of San Diego has current openings for SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
FUTURE SALARY INCREASES

June 2027 - 3.03% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + 0.03% Market Adjustment)

Senior Accountants are responsible for performing accounting and/or auditing duties involving financial statements, records and reports, and may also supervise others performing clerical, paraprofessional and/or professional accounting work. Senior Accountants are responsible for the most difficult accounting projects involving the analysis of budgetary, revenue, cost, and other financial records.
The current vacancy is with the Auditor and Controller Department, however, the list established from this recruitment may be used for vacancies in various County of San Diego departments.

Hiring Timeline & Dates
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins in August 2026. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in accounting or a closely related field such as finance, business administration, or economics, with at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units of accounting from among the following courses: Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Fund Accounting, Cost Accounting, or Auditing; AND,
2. At least three (3) years of professional accounting experience.

NOTE: A California CPA Certificate will be considered as meeting the education requirement. A master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in accounting may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

Required Licenses, Certifications or Registrations
Positions may involve necessary and timely transportation for field travel, requiring the ability to arrange transportation to different worksites, meetings, or field work.
