Segment Head, Financial Institutions Investment BankingJob OverviewThe Segment Head, Financial Institutions Investment Banking is responsible for leading and expanding KeyBanc Capital Markets' Financial Institutions Group (FIG) investment banking franchise, with a primary focus on driving revenue growth, increasing market share, and elevating the firm's presence across the financial services sector. This executive will develop and execute business strategies focused on specialty finance, insurance, insurance services, and asset management clients, while leading a team of senior and junior investment bankers.
The Segment Head will be accountable for originating and executing M&A transactions, expanding advisory relationships with executives and boards, increasing fee revenue generation, and strengthening Key's competitive position within the FIG marketplace. The individual will foster collaboration across investment banking, capital markets, commercial banking, and product partners to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients.
This role serves as a strategic leader, mentor, client advisor, and revenue producer responsible for building a sustainable and scalable FIG franchise.
Essential Job FunctionsBusiness Development & Revenue Growth- Develop and execute the strategic vision for the Financial Institutions Investment Banking segment.
- Grow M&A advisory revenue through new client acquisition and expanded penetration of existing relationships.
- Identify emerging industry trends and market opportunities across specialty finance, insurance, insurance services, and asset management sectors.
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of advisory opportunities.
- Increase wallet share with existing clients through strategic coverage and coordinated delivery of Key's capabilities.
- Partner with senior management to establish annual business plans, growth objectives, and financial targets.
Client Coverage & Relationship Management- Develop trusted advisor relationships with CEOs, CFOs, Boards of Directors, private equity sponsors, and key industry stakeholders.
- Lead the origination and execution of strategic advisory assignments, including:
- Mergers & Acquisitions
- Buy-side Advisory
- Sell-side Advisory
- Strategic Alternatives Reviews
- Capital Raising Assignments
- Fairness Opinions
- Represent KeyBanc Capital Markets at industry conferences, client events, and executive meetings.
- Expand Key's visibility and reputation within targeted FIG subsectors.
Leadership & Team Development- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Managing Directors, Directors, Vice Presidents, Associates, and Analysts.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on client service, collaboration, accountability, and professional development.
- Provide coaching on business development, transaction execution, client management, and leadership skills.
- Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retention initiatives.
- Create succession plans and development opportunities for emerging leaders within the FIG platform.
Transaction Execution- Provide senior leadership and oversight throughout transaction processes.
- Ensure high-quality analyses, valuation work, client presentations, and deal execution.
- Lead complex negotiations and strategic discussions with clients and counterparties.
- Partner with legal, compliance, risk, and capital markets teams to ensure successful transaction completion.
Strategic Franchise Development- Expand Key's market presence within specialty finance, insurance, insurance services, and asset management sectors.
- Evaluate market opportunities and develop coverage strategies for underpenetrated subsectors.
- Coordinate with industry and product bankers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Monitor competitor activity and industry trends to identify opportunities for differentiation and growth.
Risk Management & Compliance- Maintain adherence to all regulatory requirements, risk management standards, compliance policies, and industry regulations.
- Promote a strong culture of integrity, governance, and responsible client engagement.
- Ensure all business activities align with firm policies and regulatory expectations.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience
- 15+ years of investment banking experience with a significant focus on financial institutions.
- Demonstrated success originating and executing M&A transactions within financial services sectors.
- Deep industry expertise within one or more of the following:
- Specialty Finance
- Insurance
- Insurance Services
- Asset Management
- Financial Technology
- Depository Institutions
- Proven leadership experience managing senior investment bankers and developing talent.
- Established network of executive-level relationships across the financial institutions landscape.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, negotiation, and transaction execution expertise.
- FINRA Series 79 and Series 63 (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications- MBA or other advanced business degree.
- Established reputation as a trusted advisor within the Financial Institutions sector.
- Experience leading or building a coverage vertical within a major investment banking platform.
- Strong relationships with private equity sponsors active in financial services investments.
- Demonstrated history of exceeding revenue and business development targets.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $213,000.00 - $445,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
