What Will I be Doing?

The Segment CDP Marketing Activation Engineer is a hands-on SME responsible for translating marketing requirements into scalable, governed audiences within Segment, enabling lifecycle marketing and cross-channel activation. They bridge Marketing, Data, and Engineering to ensure data is accurately ingested, unified, and activated using strong identity resolution principles and standards. The role also drives data quality, governance, and continuous optimization to deliver reliable, high-impact audience use cases in a way that can be measured effectively to drive marketing strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Translate marketing briefs and requirements into technically sound audience definitions and segmentation logic within Segment
  • Design, build, and maintain reusable, identity-aware audiences to support lifecycle marketing, personalization, and activation use cases
  • Serve as the in-platform SME for Segment, including audience creation, traits, events, and destination activation
  • Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Data, and Engineering to align business needs with technical audience and data solutions
  • Validate, monitor, and troubleshoot data ingestion pipelines to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with expected schemas
  • Configure and manage Segment Unify, including identity resolution, merge policies, and profile stitching
  • Ensure high standards of data quality, integrity, naming conventions, and platform governance across audiences and data sources
  • Develop and enforce SOPs, QA processes, and governance frameworks for audience creation, data onboarding, and change management
  • Monitor audience performance, data flow, and platform health, identifying and resolving issues and optimization opportunities
  • Configure and manage access controls, permissions, and Engage Spaces to support governance and privacy requirements
  • Document audience logic, operational processes, and governance standards to support audit readiness and scalability
  • Provide training, guidance, and best practices to enable stakeholder adoption and effective use of the CDP
  • Continuously improve segmentation strategies, platform usage, and operational processes to drive better marketing outcomes

Qualifications

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Deep knowledge of Customer Data Platforms (CDPs), specifically Twilio Segment, including Audiences, Unify, Personas/Engage, and destination integrations
  • Marketing Systems integration knowledge with the ability to connect data, technology, and business outcomes
  • Strong understanding of identity resolution, profile stitching, and customer data modeling concepts
  • Experience with event-based data structures, schemas, traits, and tracking plans
  • Working knowledge of data pipelines, ETL processes, and data validation techniques
  • Familiarity with data governance principles, including data quality, naming conventions, access controls, and privacy compliance (Confluence experience is a plus)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Effective communication skills to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and enable adoption
  • Familiarity with downstream activation platforms (e.g., email, paid media, personalization tools) and how CDP audiences are consumed
  • Experience with API integrations, event tracking implementations, and debugging tools


It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with a CDP (Segment strongly preferred)
  • Experience in lifecycle marketing, personalization, or omnichannel activation strategies
  • Experience in highly regulated environments with privacy and consent considerations
  • Experience designing customer journeys, trigger-based campaigns, and segmentation strategies
  • Knowledge of A/B testing, experimentation frameworks, and personalization techniques
  • Understanding of attribution and campaign performance measurement
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) and consent management practices
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and optimization
  • Ability to influence without authority across cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
