Summary

A NASA Special Security Officer (SSO) acts as the principal authority for managing and overseeing Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security programs. This role involves enforcing security policies, managing personnel security, and conducting vulnerability assessments to protect national security information. The role also includes safeguarding life, property, and information to support law enforcement activities essential to daily security operations and core Agency programs.

Duties

Help

  • Supports the Information Security program by offering policy and classification guidance, and assists with the management of information and facilities.
  • Manage security programs to protect classified national security and sensitive information; manage identification, safeguarding, classification, downgrading, and declassification activities to ensure proper handling and use of classified information.
  • Coordinates with Management relative to issues, clearance determinations, and other activities.
  • Ensures personnel are aware of security regulations and provides advice and guidance to program security goals.
  • Perform work involving physical security measures to safeguard personnel, facilities, information, and critical assets at NASA facilities.
  • Continuously assesses procedures to recommend improvements and changes to enhance overall security.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:

  • Analyzing, formulating, and/or making recommendations for the development and implementation of the center physical security plans;
  • Providing guidance related to information/industrial security and national security;
  • Reviewing and applying classification guidance, including contractor security classification requirements, to support safeguarding of classified and sensitive information.
