Summary

These positions are located in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Domestic Operations Directorate, Office of Protection (DS/DO/P).

DS/DO/P provides a range of protective services to visiting foreign dignitaries, resident foreign dignitaries, domestic dignitaries, and the Secretary of State. The Office also coordinates protection for major events as designated by the International Security Events Group (ISEG), the U.N. General Assembly, and diplomatic events held domestically by the Department.

Duties

Help

  • Plans, manages, organizes, and directs activities related to accepted protective operations within the assigned portfolio.
  • Coordinates with senior Department officials and senior members of foreign and domestic law enforcement entities to plan for protective missions.
  • Advises on a range of security, administrative, and resource issues related to security, protection, and/or other law enforcement issues.
  • Assists with the planning and coordination of Department of State ministerials and special events domestically.
  • Assists with long-range planning, development, and coordination of procedures.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement.

NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience reviewing and evaluating threat assessments to support the planning of protective security operations.
  • Experience coordinating logistical elements for protective security operations.
  • Experience recommending solutions to security, protection, or other law enforcement issues.


There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
