Valiant Solutions is seeking a Security Compliance Policy and Guide Writer to join our rapidly growing and innovative cybersecurity team!

Are you a technical writer interested in documenting some new and cutting-edge security control requirements for our large government client? In this role, you'll work to document both operational reference and security compliance documentation. This includes agency policies, technical baselines, and all documentation related to enterprise-level compliance for the agency. This is an exciting opportunity with an innovative client.

Required Experience

  • 3+ years of experience writing technical documentation for IT solutions, including operational guides and compliance documentation
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering or related degree OR two (2) additional years of professional experience in lieu of degree.
  • Must understand both NIST special publications, FISMA, and other federal laws and regulations and be able to digest them while translating them into policy.
  • Ability to rapidly and effectively research Federal regulations, laws, and guidance and apply them in the editing and writing of policies, technical guides, and procedural guides.
  • Experience using Google Workspace (Google Drive, Sheets, Docs) a plus
  • Working knowledge of IT standards and frameworks (at a minimum, NIST and ISO)


Responsibilities
  • Ensures all Agency documents align with the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), other Federal guidance such as Executive Orders, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Memoranda, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) publications, and the Agency's internal guidance on the security of information and information systems.
  • Interfaces with federal employees and contractors to perform the required activities.
  • Assists in presenting updates and the status of deliverables to the client.
  • Develops spreadsheets (Google and Excel) for tracking metrics reported about FISMA, assessment tests both for Assessment & Authorization (A&A) and continuous monitoring, and development/maintenance of Google Forms.
  • Gathers and writes technical documents for the installation, operation, and maintenance of information systems in clear and concise language
  • Ensures that technical documents are written in a clear, readable format that can be understood by technical and non-technical personnel
  • Ensures documentation properly references organizational policies as needed
  • Performs quality assurance reviews and edits applicable materials as needed
  • Acquires and verifies knowledge by working closely with stakeholders engaged in developing new products and services as well as making improvements to existing documentation, observing the performance of information system pilots, examining drawings and notes, and reviewing rewrites of articles, manuals, or similar publications
  • Ensures conformance to existing IT standards by revising the text and making recommendations to changes in scope where necessary
  • Works with system owners and SMEs to understand existing and planned technologies and standards
  • Writes or edits documentation to include materials for reports, manuals, briefings, proposals, instructional materials, catalogs, and software and hardware documentation
  • Utilize project management tools (such as Trello or Jira) to manage and track assigned tasks

The salary range for this position is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. It has been benchmarked in relation to the scope of the role, market rate, and internal equity. The salary for this role is expected to be in the $115,000-$128,500 range. Where a candidate falls within the band can be determined based on one or more of the following: skillset, experience level, achievements, education, geographic location, security clearance, involvement in corporate tasks, and other non-discriminatory factors. In addition to the base salary, this role will include benefits as described above. Valiant reserves the right to adjust the salary range, experience requirements, and position responsibilities at any time without prior notice.

Remote Work Policy

Physical Demands
