Job Title: Section Head, Pediatric Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (Associate Professor or Professor)



Job Summary:

The Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (Anschutz Medical Campus) and Children's Hospital Colorado is recruiting a fellowship trained Pediatric Plastic Surgeon for a 1.0 FTE position available at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to act as Section Head for the Pediatric Plastic Surgery Program. The Section Head will be responsible for program, academic and service-related duties at the University of Colorado Anschutz and Children's Hospital Colorado.

Nature of Work:

The Section Head of Pediatric Plastic and ReconstructiveSurgery will provide strategic medical leadership and direction for operations of the unit across clinical care, research, and education. Will be responsible for hospital department chair duties as outlined in Medical Staff Bylaws. Scope of responsibility will include strategic practice management, business development, provider recruitment and retention and delivery of outstanding faculty, patient and referring provider service. Has primary responsibility for establishing accountability with providers regarding CHCO policies and procedures, operational standards, and quality and service excellence initiatives. Position includes responsibility for Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) system. Key member of CHCO care delivery leadership team and participates in all strategic discussions and operational planning for their department.

This position will exhibit the following characteristics/requirements of a Hospital Department Chair:

  • Appointed by the CHCO Board of Directors
  • Clinically active and respected
  • Active clinical practice at CHCO
  • Member in good standing of Attending/Admitting Staff or Associated Scientific Staff
  • Appointment as full-time academic faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM)


Examples of Work Performed:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  1. Responsible for all clinical activities in Pediatric Plastic and ReconstructiveSurgery
  2. Monitor the professional performance of privileged members in the Division, making recommendations relating to Medical Staff membership and clinical privileges at the time of appointment and reappointment.
  3. Oversee quality and appropriateness of patient care rendered by providers in their department.
  4. Provide input into and ensure adherence to CHCO Policies and Procedures.
  5. Attend CHCO strategic and operational meetings, as requested
  6. Work with administrative partners to optimize, as well as develop and implement plans to improve all clinically related activities of patient care, and patient and family experience
  7. Incorporate community-based members of Division into Hospital activities as appropriate, communicate appropriate policies and procedures, respond to concerns from community-based providers in a timely manner, and submit a plan to the MEC on an annual basis outlining how community providers, if applicable, will be incorporated into departmental activities.
  8. Oversee credentialing and privileging as related to Divisional providers and procedures.
  9. Responsible for developing and overseeing the education and research programs in Pediatric Surgery.
  10. Responsible for the educational mission of the Division for all learners - medical students, residents, fellows, APPs, nurses, and faculty.
  11. Responsible for a robust quality and safety program.
  12. Maintain and further develop a nationally renowned research and innovation program.


Fiscal Responsibilities:

  1. The Section Head of Pediatric Plastic and ReconstructiveSurgery will work with their administrative partners to prepare annual volume and operating budgets pertaining to their department.
  2. In concert with CHCO administrative partner, will review monthly productivity statistics report for the department and develop action plans for improvement and sustainability.
  3. Will suggest and participate in cost savings/productivity strategies to meet or improve the operational budget while maintaining quality service, provider satisfaction, excellent patient outcomes, and patient and referring provider satisfaction.
  4. Report to the medical board or other committees as requested.
  5. In collaboration with the CUSOM department administrator and clinical program director, the section head will review monthly financial statements for the Division and develop action plans for improvement and sustainability.


Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Professor:
• Board Certification in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
• Completion of Pediatric Plastic Surgery Fellowship (ACGME accredited)
• Ability to obtain license to practice as a physician in the state of Colorado with prescriptive privilege
• 4+ years' experience in pediatric plastic surgery practice for Associate Professor rank

Professor:
• Board Certification in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
• Completion of Pediatric Plastic Surgery Fellowship (ACGME accredited)
• Ability to obtain license to practice as a physician in the state of Colorado with prescriptive privilege
• 7+ years' experience in pediatric plastic surgery practice for Professor rank

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in an academic clinical environment
• Demonstrated Leadership experience (medical teams or hospital group)
• Experience in clinical or basic science research

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$450,000 to $600,000
