Fully Remote | SEC Financial Reporting Analyst
Job Description:
The SEC Financial Reporting Analyst prepares and reviews key sections of SEC filings, supports corporate financial reporting and consolidation, and serves as a primary liaison with external auditors. This role focuses on accurate and timely financial statement preparation, strong internal controls, and collaboration across Accounting, Finance, and other departments in a remote work environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review sections of SEC filings, including 10-Ks, 10-Qs, 8-Ks, and related disclosures to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Own the preparation of standalone financial statements for select properties, ensuring they align with corporate reporting standards and timelines.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits, providing schedules, support, and explanations as needed.
  • Support month-end close activities by preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations.
  • Own corporate consolidation processes and perform variance analysis to explain results and trends.
  • Maintain and improve the lease tracker for internal reporting, ensuring data integrity and timely updates.
  • Document, enhance, and strengthen internal controls in partnership with the audit team.
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, and other departments on cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • Use Excel to analyze large data sets, including creating and manipulating VLOOKUPs and pivot tables to support reporting and decision-making.
  • Utilize Workiva, Wdesk, or similar tools to support SEC reporting and related workflows.
  • Apply AI tools and techniques to improve accounting and reporting processes where appropriate.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative culture and support continuous improvement in financial reporting practices.

Essential Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in financial reporting at a public company or in public accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of SEC reporting, including experience with 10-Ks, 10-Qs, 8-Ks, and related disclosures.
  • Financial reporting expertise, including preparation and review of financial statements.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including the ability to navigate large data sets and create and manipulate VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.
  • Ability to work effectively with a remote leader and collaborate in a distributed team environment.
  • Experience with Workiva and Wdesk or comparable SEC reporting platforms.
  • Solid understanding of how the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement interact.
  • Ability to analyze tenant and property-level data to summarize key metrics and identify anomalies.
  • Capability to investigate and explain variances in financial results, such as changes in rent by building.
  • Experience tying out and reconciling 10-Q and 10-K filings to underlying records and support.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience with MRI or similar real estate accounting and reporting systems.
  • Experience utilizing AI in accounting and financial reporting processes.
  • Real estate industry experience, particularly with property-level reporting and lease data.
  • Interest in pursuing CPA licensure, with support available for exam preparation and license reimbursement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through complex data sets and reporting challenges.
  • Clear, concise communication skills for working with auditors and cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to long-term roles and ability to articulate reasons for any contract engagements or job changes.

Work Environment
This role operates in a fully remote environment, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with work conducted on Eastern Time. The position includes company-paid travel to visit the Virginia Beach office twice per year, offering opportunities to connect in person with colleagues and leadership. Team members may use tools such as Workiva, Wdesk, MRI, Excel, and AI-driven applications in their daily work. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.47 - $40.86/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
