POSITION SUMMARY:The 3-time WNBA Champions Los Angeles Sparks are seeking an amateur and pro personnel scout to play a key role in the organization's player acquisition system. Areas of focus for this role include the evaluation and projection of amateur and pro personnel, providing recommendations for player transactions, and supporting all core processes within player evaluation. This position will report under the direction of the Assistant GM of Strategy and Insights.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Evaluation of amateur and pro players- Evaluate player skillsets and project overall impact through both live scouting and film study. Role will focus on both scouting of amateurs and pro personnel.
- Deliver recommendations on player decisions through evaluation reports.
Player acquisition- Be a part of the player acquisition process through collaboration with Strategy, Player Development, Coaching staff, and R&D groups.
Insights and analysis- Supplement player evaluation through involvement in research projects and analysis.
Relationship building- Build relationships with coaches in amateur and international leagues.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Education & Certifications- No specific degree or technical background is required.
Work Experience- Prior experience in a basketball environment or a fast-paced environment where adaptability and being a self-starter were required.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- High-level understanding of the game of basketball, with a passion for player evaluation.
- Proven ability as an evaluator of skill and projections of player impact. Diverse skillset and ability to use multiple types of data to form evaluations.
- Experience using basketball film software such as Synergy and/or Sportscode.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of how player evaluation is used across core basketball operations systems and departments.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach with strong problem-solving ability. Curious and driven to explore innovation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work unconventional hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
