Job Description:

The Software Lead is responsible for leading software development activities across the full lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, implementation, integration, verification, and release support. This role provides technical leadership to the software team, ensures alignment with program objectives, and supports execution within cost, schedule, and quality constraints.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of software engineers in the development and sustainment of software products.
  • Provide technical direction for software architecture, design, coding, integration, and test activities.
  • Ensure software development complies with applicable program, customer, and quality requirements.
  • Drive decomposition of system and software requirements into implementable software tasks.
  • Support planning, estimation, risk management, and execution of software work products.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering, test, quality, cybersecurity, and program management teams.
  • Conduct peer reviews, technical reviews, and status assessments of software products.
  • Support root cause analysis and resolution of software defects and integration issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote software engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to proposal efforts, basis of estimates, and technical planning as needed.


Basic Qualifications (Minimum)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in embedded systems, real-time software, or safety-/mission-critical applications.
  • Experience with software requirements development and traceability.
  • Familiarity with configuration management, code reviews, CI/CD, and automated testing.
  • Experience with C, C++, Python, or other relevant programming languages.
  • Experience with Agile, iterative, or hybrid development processes.
  • Familiarity with regulated or standards-based development environments.
  • Experience with the Link 16 waveform and software defined radios.
  • Continuous Integration & Development (CI/CD) experience.
  • Significant experience in software engineering, including design, development, integration, and test.
  • Experience leading software teams or serving as a technical lead.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Provides day-to-day technical leadership for assigned software scope.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $161,500 - $300,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
