The OpportunityAs a Scientist II - Panel Production / Molecular Biology within the Biospecimen Acquisition and Management (BAM) team, you will play a key role in generating and characterizing the biological resources that enable Roche's research and development efforts. You will apply your molecular biology and cell culture expertise to produce custom clinical panels and characterized biological materials for research, clinical, regulatory, and product development activities.
- Plan and execute project activities independently, applying established scientific principles to support panel production and molecular characterization.
- Design, develop, and produce custom biological panels that enable critical research, assay development, and clinical study objectives.
- Generate and qualify bulk biological materials, ensuring adherence to established quality standards.
- Apply a broad range of molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, and mammalian cell culture.
- Lead small to moderate complexity projects by developing timelines, coordinating deliverables, and troubleshooting technical challenges.
- Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and maintain accurate records within LIMS and electronic laboratory notebooks (eLN).
- Partner with multidisciplinary teams to transfer products, technologies, and scientific knowledge to internal stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve laboratory processes, enhance operational efficiency, and support the implementation of automation.
Who you are- You hold a Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline.
- You have 4+ years of relevant industry experience applying broad knowledge in molecular biology or clinical studies, alongside an understanding of medical device and IVD assay development.
- You enjoy hands-on laboratory work and are passionate about molecular biology techniques and cell culture management.
- You are comfortable working in a BSL-2 laboratory environment, maintaining strong aseptic technique and accurate data documentation (LIMS/eLN).
- You are a self-motivated collaborator who can independently plan experiments, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively across cross-functional teams.
Preferred- An advanced degree in a scientific discipline.
- Experience navigating complex, matrixed organizations and aligning cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience working with high-throughput molecular biology platforms and automated laboratory systems.
- Experience coordinating project timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communications.
- Customer-facing or client support experience, with the ability to build strong relationships.

The expected salary range for this position is based on the primary location of Pleasanton, CA $67,500 - $103,100. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
