Role Overview

The Scientist III - Analytical Chemistry is an advanced technical expert responsible for leading complex chemical analyses and interpreting results that support quality control, product development, troubleshooting, and customer-facing initiatives for concrete and construction materials. The role serves as a strong technical resource in the isolation, characterization, and quantification of inorganic and organic compounds. Operating with a high degree of independence, the Scientist III - Analytical Chemistry supports critical technical and business decisions, contributes to method development and validation, and mentors junior laboratory staff while collaborating closely with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional associates.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform complex analytical testing using a range of techniques, including but not limited to: HPLC, GC, GC-MS, FTIR, UV-Vis, SEC, thermal analysis, particle size analysis, and microscopy.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain analytical methods for raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Provide accurate and timely analytical results, reports, and interpretations to internal stakeholders.
  • Identify and characterize unknown organic and inorganic(cementitious) compounds, especially in support of Field Service, Manufacturing, and Product Development.
  • Ensure strict adherence to accepted standards.
  • Maintain laboratory instruments, perform routine maintenance, and troubleshoot issues with hardware/software.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (R&D, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales) to resolve technical challenges and support new product development.
  • Lead or participate in client meetings, audits, and provide technical consulting for external stakeholders.
  • Provide training and mentoring to junior staff on instrumentation, methodology, and safety practices.
  • Understand that Safety and Environmental responsibility is a major part of Master Builders Solutions culture. Must Follow all appropriate Environmental Protection, Safety, Health (EHS) policies and report all unsafe conditions and accidents immediately to appropriate managers or directors.
  • Must understand and follow all quality initiatives and processes for ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 and other ISO regulations, procedures and processes as they pertain to job responsibilities

Knowledge and Experience

Education/Experience
  • Required:
    • Master's or higher degree in Analytical Chemistry.
    • Substantial experience in small molecule characterization
    • Considerable experience in extraction techniques and trace compound analysis
  • Preferred
    • Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry.
    • Greater than 2 years of industrial analytical chemistry experience
    • Substantial experience in polymer characterization

Knowledge/Skills
    • Strong knowledge of analytical instrumentation and data interpretation.

Work Environment

This job operates in a laboratory environment. Based on the job description, the role will use standard office equipment and equipment as specified in the laboratory to perform experiments and analyses for the company. All employees will be expected to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. For this role, work hours will fall within the standard office operations hours, which are Monday to Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work at a lab bench, stand, sit, and walk.
