Role SummaryThe Scientist I, Sample Management and Laboratory Operations supports clinical and non-clinical sample operations across sample receipt, chain of custody, storage, reconciliation, and transfer. This role works closely with scientists, study teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure samples and associated data are managed accurately, safely, and in compliance with applicable SOPs, study plans, and regulatory requirements. The position also supports assay-ready sample delivery, laboratory documentation, and routine process improvements.
Key Responsibilities- Work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to support sample management and laboratory operations aligned to business and study needs.
- Safely handle biological matrices such as serum, plasma, blood, lysates, CSF, and related materials.
- Maintain end-to-end sample integrity, including storage, distribution for testing, and final disposition of samples.
- Independently complete sample check-in activities within the validated laboratory information system or LIMS, such as receive, inspect, log, store, and transfer biological samples.
- Maintain accurate shipment, receipt, condition, and disposition records in data management systems, and notify the manager and relevant scientists of any discrepancies, abnormalities, or chain-of-custody concerns.
- Support reconciliation of sample information to ensure assay-ready samples are delivered to testing teams on time.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to sample flow, data quality, and laboratory efficiency.
- Train or mentor junior staff on basic sample handling, documentation, and system workflows.
QualificationsDesired Qualifications- Experience in sample management, laboratory operations, biomarker support, or related scientific operations
- Familiarity with biological sample handling, shipping, and regulated laboratory environments
- Working knowledge of LIMS or similar laboratory information systems
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation practices
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with cross-functional partners
