What You Will Contribute To Altos

We are seeking a highly organized and collaborative Scientific Operations Manager with a flexible, solutions-oriented approach to support the evolving needs of the Drug Discovery and Development Sciences (3DS) organization. Reporting to the Director of Operations, 3DS, this individual will drive operational excellence across laboratory, business, and team functions while partnering closely with scientific and cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

The ideal candidate will bring prior biotech industry experience working in laboratory and/or scientific operational environments and will be comfortable managing competing priorities and cross-functional requests across multiple teams. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who can independently manage operational processes while serving as a trusted operational resource and key point of coordination for teams across the organization.

Example responsibilities
  • Lab management: Coordinate laboratory operations in collaboration with Facilities, EHS, Lab Managers, and scientific teams, including equipment maintenance, vendor coordination, laboratory compliance activities, and space management support.
  • Contract lifecycle management: Manage contract and agreement workflows by partnering with Legal, Procurement, Finance, and external vendors to initiate, track, maintain, and renew contracts, statements of work, purchase orders, and related documents.
  • Budget management: Support budget and resource management activities, including expense tracking, invoice processing, spending oversight, and coordination with Finance partners.
  • Team operations: Partner with the Director of Operations and 3DS leadership to support day-to-day operational activities and organizational priorities including monthly department meetings, offsites, team-building activities, and other organizational events. Manage agendas, logistics, communications, and follow-up action tracking to support effective team engagement and execution. Support onboarding activities for new employees. Evolve internal processes and operational workflows to be scalable, robust, and resilient as the organization grows. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and team effectiveness through the development and implementation of streamlined processes, templates and trackers.
Who You Are
  • PhD in the life sciences with 3-5 years of laboratory-based industry experience in nonclinical operations, scientific operations, laboratory management, or related functions; OR a Master's degree with 7+ years of relevant biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Strong organizational, operational, and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across functions and organizational levels.
  • Proven ability to identify operational gaps, remove bottlenecks, and implement process improvements that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and execution excellence.
  • Experience with project management, vendor management, budgeting, and/or scientific operations tools is preferred.

The salary range for Redwood City, CA
  • Scientific Operations Manager: $163,000 - $209,000
