What You'll Do at the YAs the School Age Care Director, you'll direct the development and day-to-day operations of licensed Before & After School programs during the school year and Day Camps throughout the summer at assigned locations, ensuring they meet the needs of our diverse community and provide a safe, positive, inclusive, and engaging environment for children.

Branch Leadership Team, working alongside other YMCA leaders to strengthen the overall branch, support staff and volunteers, build community relationships, and advance the Y's mission.
School Age Child Care Director Responsibilities: Lead High-Quality Programs- Manage, direct, and coordinate School Age Care programs for assigned location(s). The Stanwood-Camano YMCA currently serves all elementary schools within its service area through four licensed school-based Before & After School Care sites.
- Develop and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive programs and activities.
- Monitor participation, program effectiveness, and quality, including participation in the Youth Program Quality Initiative (YPQI), to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure YMCA standards, safety procedures, DCYF licensing requirements, and applicable ADA requirements are met.
- Maintain program facilities, equipment, records, and required documentation.
- Organize family events and opportunities that strengthen connection and engagement.
Lead and Develop People- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and supervise staff and volunteers.
- Create a positive team culture grounded in the Y's mission and core values.
- Provide coaching, feedback, recognition, and accountability to support staff growth and performance.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and compliance with required child-to-staff ratios.
- Support a branch-wide culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous learning.
Build Relationships and Community- Develop strong relationships with school administrators, families, licensing agencies, community groups, and community partners.
- Respond to family and community questions and concerns with professionalism and care.
- Build partnerships that strengthen programs and expand opportunities for children and families.
- Communicate the impact of YMCA School Age Care programs to families, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Support YMCA fundraising, committees, marketing, and special events as assigned.
Manage Operations and Resources- Develop, manage, and control program budgets and ensure programs operate within budget.
- Ensure program fees are collected and financial and participation goals are monitored.
- Identify challenges and opportunities and take action to improve program quality, participation, and financial performance.
- Expand programs in alignment with YMCA strategic and operating plans.
- Ensure accurate records, reporting, and program documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:- Four or more years of related experience supervising staff and managing licensed School Age Care programs.
- Minimum age 21.
- Meet educational and experience qualifications established by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF):
- Complete 45 college credits in any 100-level or above college coursework or equivalent; OR
- Have completed at least 12 college credits in any 100-level or above coursework or equivalent and complete an additional 33 college credits in any 100-level or above coursework or equivalent within five years of employment.
- Provide documentation of all certification and training requirements established by DCYF, including position prerequisites, current negative TB test, required MMR/other vaccinations, and portable background check.
- Experience working with individuals, families, and communities from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate programming and child care practices.
- Strong computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Strong professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in a second language preferred.
