Full Job Description
Sales and Applications Engineer | Nox Metals | Detroit, MI

We need a Sales and Applications Engineer to be the technical backbone of every customer relationship. The engineer who can read the drawing, walk the customer's floor, run the nest, defend the quote, and translate every detail into a clean job our factory can ship. You sit between the customer, the sales team, and operations, and you make all three of them better. Nox Metals is an employer with real opportunity for long term career growth, this is a place to build a career, not just hold a job.

You will:
  • Partner with Outside Sales as the technical lead on complex accounts, travel to customer sites, walk shop floors, sit in design reviews
  • Partner with Inside Sales on complex quotes, translate drawings, specs, and POs into clean jobs in NOX NEST and accurate quotes in WAYNE
  • Run nests, validate scrap, model cycle times, and price the work like an engineer who knows what the floor can actually do
  • Read customer drawings, GD&T, and specs and turn them into precise material, tolerance, and process requirements
  • Translate customer requirements into clean jobs, alloy, temper, thickness, tolerances, cert requirements, packaging, dock dates, all of it
  • Be the customer's go-to engineer, you handle the technical questions Sales cannot, on a call, in an email, or on their shop floor
  • Lead first article runs, complex quoting exercises, and new program qualifications
  • Capture every customer requirement, every quote, every win, every loss as structured data in our systems, the data is the moat
  • Bring the customer's voice back to operations, supply chain, software, and quality every single day
  • Partner with software and engineering to push for product improvements that win more business, file tickets, write specs, ship better tools
  • Always ask questions, never guess when something is unclear
  • Look at every quote, every customer, every workflow and figure out how to make it better
  • Work safely on every customer floor and our floor, hold yourself to the same standard we hold our team to

You should be:
  • 3 to 5+ years of applications engineering, technical sales, sales engineering, or comparable customer-facing technical experience in metals, machining, or manufacturing
  • Mechanical, manufacturing, or comparable engineering degree or equivalent capability
  • Strong technical fluency, you can read a drawing, GD&T, talk alloys, tempers, tolerances, and lead times like an engineer who has been on the floor
  • Comfortable on a customer's shop floor, you can stand at a CNC, talk to the operator and the buyer, and earn trust before you ever quote a part
  • Skilled at quoting, estimating, and nesting, every line item priced right, every assumption documented
  • Cracked with AI tools, modern software, CRM and quoting systems, you live in the stack and you make it faster every week
  • Tightly partnered with software teams in past roles, comfortable writing specs, filing tickets, and shaping the tools you use
  • A team player with a good attitude, you make the company better for everyone around you
  • High attention to quality, every quote, every job, every cert, every customer interaction
  • Always thinking about how to make processes better, you do not accept "this is how we have always done it";
  • Absolutely customer obsessed, you carry every customer's deadline like it is your own
  • User obsessed, you sit with our internal sales and operations teams too, watch them work, and build the workflows that make them faster
  • Someone who takes ownership, if it is technical and customer-facing, it is your responsibility
  • Precise under pressure and reliable, customers count on the prices and dates you commit to
  • Organized enough to juggle complex accounts, active quotes, and live customer programs without dropping one
  • Committed to safety, you follow every protocol on every floor and hold our team to the same standard
  • High agency, you handle big items alone and ask for help when needed
  • Low ego, you walk the floor, you crawl into machines, you do the unglamorous work because it needs to get done
  • Able to travel and spend real time in the field, on customer floors, in shops
  • Not afraid to work outside normal hours when America demands it
  • Never says "that's not my job"

Nice to have:
  • Background applying metals, aluminum, or aerospace and defense components in customer programs
  • Experience with WAYNE-style nesting, quoting, or estimating tools
  • CNC programming, machining, or shop floor experience earlier in career
  • Experience inside aerospace or defense quoting environments, AS9100, DFARS, AMS, ASTM
  • Forklift and/or overhead crane certification
  • Comfortable using AI tools to work faster and smarter
