Full Job Description
Position Title: Safety & Training Manager

Classification: Exempt

Essential Functions:

The Safety & Training Manager will provide technical and strategic expertise in the management and execution of training specific to utilities compliance and technical training. Will coordinate efforts to develop processes and procedures to fulfill regulatory requirements, customer utilities standards and company policy. Will be responsible for managing a training staff that conducts field and administrative based compliance assessments, ensuring adherence to all codes and standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develops training curricula for safety, quality, and technical utility construction and maintenance compliance
  • Facilitates training sessions as needed in the areas of safety, field operations, and leadership
  • Oversees operating company's Operator Qualification (OQ) program and reports monthly compliance to internal and external leadership teams
  • Conducts field and office compliance assessments of operating company personnel to ensure adherence to all Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), other regulatory agencies, clients, and operating company standards and policies
  • Communicates with operating company and clients on all personnel training document requirements and ensures documentation is being captured, stored, reviewed, and disposed of properly
  • Works with the operations departments to identify compliance risks and develop both short- and long-term solutions
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and develops solutions to operational challenges
  • Ensures compliance standards and best practices are incorporated into company policies and processes; plans/leads initiatives and tracks key performance indicators


Success Factors:

  • Experience with managing and leading direct reports
  • Experience creating online training with Articulate products preferred
  • Experience managing a learning management system preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills


Experience and Education:

  • Two (2+) plus years experience in developing technical training curricula related to construction or utility is required
  • Two (2+) plus years of project management and team leadership experience is required
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year to year basis


Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License is required within two weeks of employment.
