Full Job Description
As an Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Technician, you will assist with administrative functions to support Safety Operations. You will ensure Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) activities and tasks are scheduled and that data is organized and recorded within applicable systems. You will also provide system user support and ensure data is current. In this position, you will be required to perform technical safety tasks in field locations for operational groups, such as respirator and noise protection fit-testing and ergonomic assessment support. Primary duties include:
  • Provide administrative support to Safety Advisors and Operations Leaders by pulling project data from systems and updating systems with project or business unit performance and incident data and metrics.
  • Provide user support to employees and leaders in the use and requirements of various systems. Act as a super user for systems, such as the Safety Data Management System (SDMS).
  • Run reports for leaders on a wide range of data and update master spreadsheets, create and maintain folder systems to store records.
  • Track testing and assessments (such as noise, audiometric testing, fit-testing), set up testing sessions as required, and maintain records.
  • Schedule meetings, including committee meetings, site inspections, post-incident reviews, audits, hazard identification and risk assessments, ERP table-top drills, SOP review meetings, amongst others.
  • Perform scribe duties and take meeting minutes, maintain records, track metrics, and run completion reports.
  • Track and report on any outstanding training and coordinate training sessions as required.
  • Assist with compiling data, records and documents, such as for audits.
  • Perform fit-testing on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as noise protection and respirators. Educate users on selection, use, limitations, storage, maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Verify user can demonstrate correct use.
  • Perform ergonomic assessments and make recommendations for appropriate furniture, equipment and tools.
Qualifications
  • A completed 1-year certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Occupational Hygiene, Ergonomics, Business Administration, or a related field with at least 3 years of related experience.
  • A Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certification is considered an asset.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various audiences to explain complex technical safety details and data.
  • Success in this position requires excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, a high attention to detail and critical thinking.
Working Conditions: Office environment and field locations for fit-testing, sampling, or ergonomic assessments. Field locations may include potential hazards for which Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn. Pre-employment Requirements
