Safety Representative - Construction, Solar, Wind, and Power Plant Projects
THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN WEST VIRGINIA. CANDIDATES MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK FULL-TIME ON-SITE IN WEST VIRGINIA.Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Representative to oversee and implement comprehensive safety programs across construction sites, including utility-scale solar, wind, and power plant projects. The ideal candidate will ensure strict compliance with OSHA standards, company policies, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role requires hands-on construction safety experience, knowledge of renewable energy and industrial construction environments, and the ability to maintain a strong field presence on active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support site-specific health and safety plans for solar, wind, and power plant construction projects.
- Conduct regular job site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Audit and oversee EPC/GC and subcontractor safety programs to ensure compliance with project safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, including applicable OSHA 1926 construction standards, as well as EPA, NFPA 70E, ANSI standards, and local safety regulations.
- Deliver safety orientation and ongoing training to employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Identify construction hazards and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; document findings and implement corrective and preventative measures.
- Collaborate with project management, field supervisors, EPC/GC teams, and subcontractors to ensure safety is integrated into all operations.
- Maintain all required safety documentation, including permits, reports, inspections, and training records.
- Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety stand-downs as needed.
- Coordinate emergency response drills and manage emergency preparedness plans.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies during site visits or compliance audits.
- Maintain a full-time field presence in an active construction environment.
- Promote and reinforce a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of construction safety experience.
- Experience working on utility-scale renewable energy construction projects, including solar and/or wind projects.
- Valid OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 construction standards sufficient to audit construction activities.
- Strong construction hazard recognition skills and the ability to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Working knowledge of applicable competent-person requirements, including fall protection, excavation, scaffolding, cranes/rigging, electrical safety, and confined spaces, as applicable to the project.
- Ability to audit and oversee EPC/GC safety programs and work effectively with contractors and subcontractors.
- Ability and willingness to work full-time in an active construction environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification or similar recognized construction safety credential.
- 3+ years of utility-scale solar and/or wind construction experience.
- CSP or other advanced safety certification.
