About the roleAs a Safety Programs Lead on the Policy team, you will be responsible for operationalizing, auditing, improving and managing Applied's safety programs, incidents response process, and internal safety reporting. Operating within an independent safety function, you will provide oversight of safety, identify emerging risks, and ensure that safety processes are consistently applied and defensible within global regulatory frameworks. Applied Intuition is looking for a high-agency individual who can take an ambiguous problem, develop the appropriate solution, align internal partners, and drive the work through execution.
At Applied Intuition, you will:- Create, manage, audit, document and implement safety processes across Applied's global operations
- Translate regulatory, safety, engineering, legal, and operational considerations into processes, standards, playbooks, and decision-making structures
- Drive safety escalations and safety decisions to closure, ensuring clear next steps, implementation, and continued compliance
- Track and analyze safety performance indicators, trends, and anomalies to validate our safety processes and implement improvements controls
- Lead Applied's response to incident and internal safety reporting; monitor the compliance with and effectiveness of existing processes and proactively identify updates
- Lead incident response tabletop drills across Applied's global footprint
- Work with business teams and customers to ensure Applied's safety programs evolve with new activities and partners
- Develop and deliver training programs to drive a strong safety-first mindset across operations
- Collaborate closely with operations, engineering, and customers to align on safety best practices
We're looking for someone who has:- 5-7+ years of experience managing safety systems in highly regulated transportation industries
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field
- Background in operational safety, risk management, or safety assurance within a fleet, logistics, or engineering environment
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify patterns, and present insights to engineering and management audiences
- Demonstrable ability to operate independently and make sound safety judgments
- Good understanding of industry-relevant standards and guidelines (e.g., AV, automotive, industrials or similar)
- Ability to develop and implement robust safety processes and procedures
Nice to Have:- Experience with autonomous vehicle or ADAS testing and development
- Background in automotive, aviation, or mining safety management systems
- Experience working with global autonomy regulations (e.g., CA DMV, NHTSA)
- Familiarity with automotive systems, electronics, and safety critical systems
