We are looking for a Safety Manager to join our Cottage Grove Lumber Mill in Oregon and help lead the next chapter of safety excellence at our site. This highly visible role is ideal for a hands-on, people-focused safety leader who brings a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine passion for creating a workplace where every employee goes home safe.
As Safety Manager, you will provide leadership, coordination, and technical expertise across safety, health, and industrial hygiene programs. You will partner with mill leadership and employees to strengthen safety systems, improve performance, and foster a culture where safety is an overriding value, and every associate takes ownership of safe work practices. You will also ensure the mill meets OSHA regulatory requirements as well as business and Company guidelines and initiatives. This position reports to the site Mill Manager.
Key FunctionsThe essence of this role requires a highly motivated, people-oriented person for the proactive, practical application of safety commitment to the operation and day-to-day behaviors of all associates. This individual will provide leadership in developing, implementing, and managing safety policies, procedures, practices, and projects.
This role will, but not limited to:- Serve as a visible safety role model and champion company safety initiatives.
- Lead incident response, investigations, and Emergency Response Team coordination.
- Make safety priorities, performance, and trends visible across the site.
- Develop and maintain safety onboarding and training programs.
- Coach mill leadership and associates on incident prevention and safe work practices.
- Provide technical safety support for mill operations and problem solving.
- Maintain effective safety systems, records, reporting, compliance, and trend analysis.
- Oversee monthly safety training and quarterly inspections.
- Serve as the site contact for corporate and regulatory safety inquiries.
- Engage associates in building an associate-driven safety program.
- Lead the mill safety team and partner with HR on workers' compensation support.
- Provide on-the-floor safety coaching, recognition, and support.
- Support safety planning for capital projects and site initiatives.
Qualifications- BS/BA in a related field with 3+ years of safety experience; 6-10 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety compliance requirements.
- Strong commitment to associate safety and continuous improvement.
- Experience with safety processes, audits, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Knowledge of chemical safety and SDS management systems.
- Action-oriented leader who learns quickly, builds relationships, and prioritizes business needs.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training.
- Project management skills with the ability to develop and implement safety processes.
- Engaging, people-centered leadership style with strong coaching and communication skills.
- Proactive, assertive, and able to work with urgency.
- Able to plan, prioritize, meet deadlines, and perform well under pressure.
- Proficient with MS Office and health and safety software programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or related safety field with 1-3 years of manufacturing/industrial safety experience; 6-10 years of relevant experience in safety may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Additional safety training or certifications, such as OSHA or CSP, preferred.
- Experience working in a union environment.
What We Offer...Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $90,000 - $135,000 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
