JOB SUMMARYThe Safety Manager leads and supports safety initiatives across multiple construction projects, ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and project-specific safety standards. This position partners with project leadership, field personnel, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to identify and mitigate hazards, promote safe work practices, and continuously strengthen Shaw-Lundquist's safety culture.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, self-motivated team player with strong field experience, sound judgment, and the ability to build trusted relationships while holding others accountable to high safety standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Champion Shaw-Lundquist's safety culture by leading, communicating, and enforcing safety policies and practices across multiple construction projects.
- Serve as a proactive safety resource and partner to Project Executives, Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel.
- Identify, evaluate, and control hazardous conditions through job-specific safety standards, training, job hazard analyses, and corrective actions designed to prevent injuries, property damage, and incidents.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, company policies, owner requirements, and industry best practices.
- Take initiative as a self-starter and team player to identify opportunities for improvement and drive enhancements to safety programs, processes, and practices.
- Mentor and coach field personnel and project teams to reinforce safe behaviors, risk awareness, and accountability.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with owners, design partners, subcontractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders to promote safety compliance and alignment.
- Collaborate with the Safety Team on key initiatives, program development, training, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Enforce safety programs, policies, and procedures and implement appropriate corrective actions in accordance with applicable regulations and company and owner requirements.
- Support project management and field personnel in maintaining compliance with safety policies, procedures, documentation, and reporting requirements.
- Intervene when unsafe practices or conditions are identified; stop work when necessary, coach employees on proper procedures, and recommend appropriate disciplinary action when warranted.
- Conduct pre-construction safety planning meetings with job site staff and subcontractors at the start of each project to review the overall site safety program, job hazard analyses, and risk mitigation plans for each scope of work.
- Participate in OSHA inspections and related follow-up activities, as well as accident and incident investigations.
- Conduct jobsite safety walkthroughs and audits with Superintendents and Foremen to identify hazards, verify corrective actions, and reinforce safe behaviors.
- Conduct jobsite safety meetings focused on timely, relevant, and project-specific safety topics.
- Deliver employee training using company-provided safety and hazard-awareness programs.
- Evaluate training needs and make recommendations to the Safety Team, project leadership, and subcontractors.
- Perform jobsite inspections and prepare thorough reports for submission to the Safety Team.
- Review safety documentation for accuracy and completeness and monitor information to identify trends, recurring hazards, and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate, jobsite-specific safety administrative files, records, and documentation.
- Participate as an active member of the Safety Team by contributing to shared goals, priorities, initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to align safety efforts and maintain strong professional relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS- Four-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management or Engineering or related degree
- Minimum 7 years that have been dedicated solely to building construction safety
- Minimum 5 years of construction safety process management experience
- Minimum 3 years of actual field experience in safety
- OSHA 500 or OSHA 502 training
- First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED training, current to within 2 years
- Knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques
- Achievement of ASP or CSP is required within 2 years of appointment to this position
- Demonstrated ability to identify known potential exposures and lead implementation of corrective actions
- Documented education and exemplify practical knowledge and working experience in the following areas:
- Fall protection
- Scaffolds
- Excavation
- Confined space
- Equipment operations
- Electrical
- Incident investigations
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Various jobsites and/or Field Operations Office
- Travel requirement to visit jobsites, which may expose the employee to outdoor weather conditions and temperatures. Occasional travel to West Region Company offices, which requires overnight stay and plane travel
- This position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee's workstation and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; and ability to hear and speak clearly.

Base Compensation Range for this role is $85,000 - $110,000Final compensation is based on experience, skills, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for Shaw-Lundquist's incentive plan.
