SUMMARY: The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety and security programs to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors across the organization. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, reduces risk, and fosters a culture of safety aligned with healthcare best practices.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Safety Program Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain organization-wide safety policies and procedures.
- Lead Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety programs.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses across all facilities.
- Oversee safety rounds and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
- Function as chair of the Safety Committee
- Security Program Management
- Manage and oversee outsourced physical security vendors.
- Manage and coordinate facility access control system, employee access badging system, and security systems in coordination with outsourced security systems vendor.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Supports adherence to applicable safety, healthcare, and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, CMS, local authorities).
- Support preparation for and participation in accreditation surveys.
- Maintain building life safety documentation and reporting required by regulatory agencies.
- Incident Management & Reporting
- Utilize incident reporting system to ensure timely investigation of safety events.
- Conduct root cause analyses (RCA) and implement corrective actions.
- Track, trend, and report safety metrics to leadership.
- Workplace Safety & Injury Prevention
- Participate in the development of programs to reduce workplace injuries (e.g., safe patient handling, sharps safety, slip/fall prevention)
- Partner with HR and Occupational Health on workers' compensation cases
- Promote ergonomics and staff safety initiatives.
- Emergency Preparedness
- Lead emergency management planning (e.g., fire safety, disaster response, active threat preparedness)
- Coordinate drills and training exercises.
- Coordinate with departments to review and maintain emergency operations plans and ensure staff readiness.

- Provide safety training and education for staff at all levels.

- Assess current state of department with relation to existing InterMed goals and plans.

- Monitors budgets to identify potential financial overruns and variances; makes appropriate recommendations to alleviate financial implications.

- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) guidelines. Maintain confidentiality related to financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic, or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and/or colleagues. Accesses and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Education:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health and safety or related field required.
- Master's degree in related field preferred.
- License/Certifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), or equivalent required
- Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA codes and standards, and healthcare safety standards
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in safety management, preferably in healthcare
- Experience with regulatory compliance and accreditation processes preferred
- Knowledge of healthcare safety, and regulatory standards
- Analytical and critical thinking skills (incident investigation, RCA)
- Excellent communication and training abilities
- Ability to influence culture and drive organizational change.

The estimated compensation range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. Certain positions may be eligible for incentive compensation plans above and beyond base compensation.
