Full Job Description
AECOM has a position available for Senior Construction Safety Professionals in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, the person will be working at a client's site full-time and act as an owner's representative at local utility construction sites. As the owner's representative and along with the construction general contractor, this person will review and collaborate on their safety programs to promote a culture of safety across the sites.
The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:
• Monitor and advise on client's EHS culture and support implementation of EHS procedures and regulatory requirements at the site.
• Conduct daily EHS inspections of construction site(s) to identify health and safety risks or areas of non-compliance with regulations, policies and procedures, contractor safety plans, and other related health and safety requirements.
• Review conformance with contractor hazard analyses and assess whether additional controls are needed to eliminate exposure or reduce the risk of incident or injury.
• Prioritize inspections and assessments associated with high-risk work activities.
• Maintain site postings and worker awareness of owner's code of conduct, code of ethics, and policies.
• Identify areas of concern or non-compliance; provide recommendations to owners' Project Managers and Safety & Security to verify approved process changes are accepted and implemented.
• Review contractor safety plans and corresponding hazard analyses.
• Review health and safety records, documentation of personnel training and certification, equipment certification, and health and safety metrics.
• Attend construction project meetings, such as kick-off and progress meetings, to represent owners' safety & security.
• Respond to incidents and participate in investigations; review corresponding corrective actions and provide feedback or subject matter expertise as necessary.
• Provide Health & Safety and Security training to contractor staff prior to the start of work (typically every Monday).
• Complete Safety and Compliance Reviews (SCR) in owners' contractor management system and review contractor submissions as requested.
• Report compliance findings as soon as possible to the contractor's EHS Manager.
• A minimum of 60% of working hours shall be in the field engaging, coaching, walking.
• May need to travel to multiple project locations, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
• BS/BA in safety or related field +6 years of construction safety or related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Safety Certification and familiar with 29 CFR 1926
• Valid Driver's License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
• Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Extensive knowledge of health and safety (OSHA 1926) regulations combined with basic environmental requirements for construction sites.
• Environmental, Health & Safety credential from a board-certified organization (i.e. CSP, ASP, CHMM, CHST) preferred.
• OSHA Outreach 10-Hour Training in Construction.
• Physically able to conduct routine field inspections and prolonged periods of walking or standing. Inspections may need to be conducted in inclement weather and require traversing rough or uneven terrain.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
• Experience overseeing a variety of construction trades
• NFPA 70E Certification
• OSHA 30 Construction Safety Training
• OSHA Authorized Trainer
• Certified Safety Professional or similar certifications
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
Additional Information
• Typically, be on-site 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend or after-hours coverage may be required
