Job Summary

Responsible for preparing and advising management on the administration of the safety and health (S&H) event prevention policies and procedures, including public safety matters. Responsible to disseminate safety and health information throughout their areas of responsibility, for assisting as assigned in the design of safety and health programs for use, for conducting safety and health observations and visitations, and for rendering guidance on S&H event prevention to other members of management. Advising on S&H governmental regulations and assisting/advising the local management in handling any public liability and event analysis as needed. Work with Safety and Health management as requested in the development and implementation of advanced S&H technical and S&H training programs. Responsible for a mutual understanding with our business partners of their S&H performance needs. Assists business partners in developing strategies that will positively impact the safety and health of the organization. Included in these strategies are cultural assessment and performance improvement initiatives. Facilitation of skills within the context of performance improvement objectives may be provided for organizations by contracting with appropriate business unit leaders and related teams. Designs and delivers related course material.

1. Instruct, advise, and assist management and personnel to carry out the Company's safety and health, public safety, S&H event prevention programs and policies and procedures.

2. Prepare, advise and deliver programs and materials for S&H meetings and conferences.

3. Conduct observations of AEP personnel, tools, equipment, and work practices to assure that safe and proper procedures are being observed.

4. Advise and assist in S&H event analysis and serve as a resource to the event analysis committee.

5. Maintain a good working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations.

6. Review and assist as needed with the location's efforts to inspect contractors' adherence to safety & health regulations.

7. Assist the Safety and Health Manager and/or the Corporate Safety Staff when requested on special assignments that involve or have Company-wide ramifications.

8. Promote and enforce the Company's S&H event Prevention and Safety and Health programs.

What You'll Need:

Safety & Health Consultant

What You'll Do

1. Assist organizations in developing long-term safety and health performance improvement strategies and the tactics to execute that strategy.

2. Develop and maintain a personal working knowledge, sufficiently diverse to be able to deal effectively with business partners regarding their safety and health performance needs.

3. Interactive in Safety & Health activities to access health and current processes of organization. Develop and implement performance processes designed to positively influence the Safety and Health within the organization as necessary.

4. Coach organization staff members in techniques and methods of developing and evaluating specialized materials, such as S&H performance assessment and provides one-on-one coaching as required.

5. Maintain continuous professional development; ensuring skills knowledge is up-to-date with latest S&H techniques within the industry.

6. Provide and present information, concepts, and demonstrate relevant skills as appropriate for Safety and Health related subjects or courses offered.

7. Promote and enforce the Company's Safety and Health programs.

8. May assist lower-level S&H professionals

What You'll Need:

Education: Bachelor's degree in safety, health, industrial hygiene/health or relevant field of study; OR Associate degree in relevant field with two years' experience in related electric utility field operations experience; OR High School diploma/GED with 4 years' experience in related electric utility field operations experience.

Experience: In addition to education requirement, 6 years of S&H experience, or electric utility operations experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver's License.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1) Have knowledge of intervention techniques and experience in instruction and meeting facilitation.

2) Understand principles of organization development and principles of performance improvement methodology's.

3) Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards.

4) Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, and/or Certified Utility Safety Professional desirable but not required.

5) Proficient oral and written skills.

6) Basic computer skills required.

7) Position involves daily as well as occasional overnight travel.

8) Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and independence

Salary:

Safety & Health Coordinator: $74,551-$86,976 annually

Safety & Health Coordinator Sr:$87,633-$102,239 annually

Safety & Health Consultant: $98,993-$118,789 annually
