Safety Engineer Job description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting the implementation of the JHL Health & Safety Program and ensuring safety compliance at JHL projects. Utilizing a team first approach, The Safety Engineer will be a champion for JHL's Culture of Safety. The Safety Engineer will conduct project levels inspections/audits and provide real-time feedback to the team and individuals related to safety. Additionally, this position will help facilitate training such as classroom-based training, hands on operator training, and field-based hazard analysis training. The Safety Engineer's role within JHL requires someone that can be a partner and a mentor for all levels of JHL personnel in Safety.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Core Duties / Responsibilities:
- The Safety Engineer provides project level supervision and support of all Safety Programs as applicable to the corporate office, JHL Jobsites, Trade Partners, and all field staff.
- Conduct and document daily, weekly, monthly, etc. as applicable of Safety Observations, Hazard Assessments, and Safety Inspections on all assigned
- Perform and document jobsite visits in the field to assist the project team in preventing, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling safety and/or industrial hygiene issues.
- Participate in pre-job planning and start-up, including JHA's, Written Silica Exposure Control Plans, Site-Specific Emergency Action Plans (EAP), etc.
- Provide technical assistance to all levels of personnel on technology utilized to facilitate the management of safety programs and protocols.
- Assist in root-cause analysis for all injuries to personnel, and accidents involving company
- Support the management of the Weekly Toolbox Talks, working with field management to ensure that current and appropriate subjects are addressed.
- Assess field training needs for the Company and make recommendations in the development of the annual training calendar for other safety trainings, including CPR and First Aid refreshers.
- Assist in monitoring lost-time injuries and illnesses, completing First Reports of Injury in a timely
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or minimum 5 years of relevant construction experience (Required)
- Construction Safety Engineer Experience minimum 2 years (Preferred)
- Bilingual, English/Spanish (Preferred)
- OSHA 30 (Minimum) or CHST (Preferred)
- MSHA Part 48 Experience (Preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety (Preferred)
- OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer (OSHA 10 & 30) (Preferred)
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Possess a solid understanding of safety management principles, as well as of required governmental reporting.
- Motivated self-starter with demonstrated ability to work both independently and with others in a team environment with the ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, manage time, and handle tight deadlines under minimal supervision.
- Display a respect for confidentiality and proven ability to navigate through difficult situations with employees, trade partners, clients, and OSHA inspectors.

Business travel is required, must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel statewide.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Office: Up to 10% of time will be spent in an office environment fulfilling the core job duties.
Field: Up to 90% of the time providing field support to crews. Exposure to high altitude, hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather: rain, heat, and loud noises.
